I been to Garlits shop 3x. Twice he was there and when I spoke to him invited me back in the shop. 3rd time he was caring for his ill wife. In shop he had multiple builds on the go. Staff told me retirement has no slowed him down yet given the man a chance to build more, be creative and try new things.

His shop/and museum is really cool. If you ever get a chance to hit Ocala Fl I highly recommend it. If Don is there he will take time to talk to you.

He lives in front of the shop/museum so he is usually there unless out on the road or at a race event.

I am not suprised by this latest build. Don was always inovating new ways in racing...He truly is a legend. I never had the pleasure seing him race live only on TV. Very kind Christian man.

Agree, it would be very interesting to know how many times he was down a track since the start of his career

I' ve been to the museum twice myself, and i have to agree - if you've never been, it's a bucket list item!
He was there both times I was there and chatted with him breifly both times - he's in high demand. I was actually there very early in the morning the first time i visited and he rode up from the house on a vintage bicycle complete with a lap dog in the basket on the front plus another dog running along side - a sight to see! He said "Good Morning" and headed for the shop to start another long day. A true Icon!!!

A few years ago, when I pulled into his property and parked, Don was riding that same bike you're talking about going from his house to the shop. I had brought a life sized stand up poster of Don (Kendall), and asked him to sign it. It was a nice day and we talked for about 20 minutes mostly about non-car related stuff. He did mention his displeasure of our Government, because of hassling he gets at the border.

Next time anyone here talks to Don Garlits, ask him about his good experience with the Royal Connaught Hotel in Hamilton.
'long time ago....
