Hello everyone this is my first post I live around Brampton way not far from the Italian Chrysler plant.
I have a 1971 Olds 455 with a turbo hydramatic 350. With a 8.2 chevy 10 bolt rear end ( Not Posi).
The trans is slipping in first and first to second shift. I was looking at options..........................200r4 has to have a lot of custom billet parts to survive a low revving high torque motor. Should I stay with a rebuilt turbo 350 trans or go to one of the overdrive ones. The heavy duty 4l80e weighs a lot..... needs a computer to work properly and an adaptor to work behind the Olds. Not to mention the cost. So I'm winter dreaming and asking for your advice...........
The 200R4 is the only one that will bolt up with out an adapter (BOP bellhousing). It's non computer and will fit where the TH350 is now.
Get the right guy to build it and it will live behind the 455.
The factory 455 always came with a TH400 behind them.
The question is how bad do you want overdrive and what's your budget.

i swear by the 200r4 in my chevelle. i just checked howard carrs sight, california transmissions, and entry level is 1600.00 for up to 400hp. the one in the chevelle was twice that price and a bit but i have over 800hp. cruising down the 401 in a classic car with over 800hp at 60-70mph with 390 ratio rear at 23-24000rpm, "priceless".

Just to clarify what Mike is saying here the "BOP" is Buick, Olds, & Pontiac Bellhousing!!! All of these have the same "bolt" pattern, but flex plate maybe different. When i swapped out trans. on my 64 Catalina [389 US engine] I used a Olds. trans. but had to use a Pontiac flexplate as Olds wouldn't bolt up to Crank/shaft pattern!!! Friend of mine just did his 62 grand prix with O/D 200 R was expensive swap but he's REALLY happy with the results

In Canada do you purchase the trans stateside or buy a rebuild kit from CK or Extreme Transmission and rebuild it here? What about setting up the TV cable and did he have the tranny lock in 4th?
Thanks
ebay has them in varying hp levels from $900 to $1100 - no core needed
I checked the E Bay ones and when you look at a list of stage 2 mods compared to CK transmission or Jakes it's hardly modified. I don't think that tranny could survive behind a low revving high torque big block.
Could anyone tell me some places that successfully built 200r4 in our neck of the woods? I know about Alliston transmissions and it looks like he builds it tough enough to take anything. Trans-Ware also was mentioned doing one about 10 years ago. By the way what did it co$t??
Thanks..................that's a new one that I will have to check out to see if I will go overdrive or just rebuild - beef the turbo hydramatic 350 Thanks
