Sherwood, Scott, Janice, Will, Andy.........Thanks

Wayne..........I already hooked Dave up with a column.....but thanks for the offer

Dan..............We talked about your generous offer last night and will see what happens by the time we get there....

Stax..............Thanks for telling us how you would build it. Show us your build and maybe we can all learn something from it

Dave had a HUGE CHUBBY last night as he is finally seeing his "Canadian Dream" being built. He was begining to wonder if I could weld at all

The drop is 3" to a 44 1/2 plateform for Daves body. All drop and kicks are gusseted by 3/16 plate. This is a simple frame that anybody

with skillsets could build. I tend to stay away from diminishing tube size or multiple angle cuts because if they are not done right

they become weak points. I will provide measurements as we get further in to motor mounts, tranny mounts, spring perches and trailing arms

as I go....no sense getting ahead of myself.

The frame is a basic frame I have built many times before and is easy to change to suite the body being used. I will provide costs of material and

labour for you to get an Idea what it SHOULD cost you if you build it yourself or have a shop build it for you.

Thanks for your support and following...........

i guess some memories are short, i did post pics in  the thread about my rat when i built it, or i thought i did.  one thing i did do when i made it was use quarter wall, i figured being so stripped down as it is i wanted some weight somewhere so i opted for heavier stuff

Thanks for the reply. That was a good price to pay to get that done.

I've helped Andrew with a couple of things, and no doubt will again in the future.

Nice to see someone getting something done on their project. Good on you Glenn for helping Dave to do his build. One day I will have to drop by and see your shop and maybe learn something myself. Hopefully I will get back out in the garage soon to finally finish my pickup. Hopefully we'll see you guys at Pugsy's in the spring.

Dave

Very happy to see that the WTF project has now changed to the WTF build!!!

Have you started a grocery/wish list of stuff that you still need or might be interested in?? Never know who might have something kicking around that you may need/want or borrow to see how it might look like on your build?

Took this from the Project WTF post you made on August 1st.

I suppose I'd better make a start on this then eh? lol

So, parts list... (please help me compile the list, with rough prices)

I'll put in some sort of order later

Body - yes
frame - no
wheels - no
rear axle and hubs - yes
glass - no
engine - yes
tranny - yes
carbs - no
starter - no
alternator - no
interior - no
seats - no
front end - no
steering rack - no
steering column - no
steering wheel - no
Exhaust - no
air intake - no
lights - no
rad - no
rad grill - no
fuel tank - no
door handles - no
roof lining - no
gauges - no
wiring and relays - no
seat belts - actually yes, lol
horn - no
dizzy - yes
water pump - no
fuel pump - no
brakes master cylinder - no
brakes - no
mirrors - no
suspension - no
ownership - no
gear shifter - yes
pedals - no
fluffy dice - no

What kind of seats?? buckets or a bench? If a bench, how wide?

Are you running that 350/TH250 combo that you got at the flea market? If so, does that 350 have the ring gear(flywheel)? 4 barrel intake? Looking for a Q-jet? Holley? Edelbrock?

Now as for the fuel tank. I have a plastic fuel cell. I'll measure it tomorrow and post the dimensions. It is a top fill. Yours if it works for you.

hows that saying go, imitation is the best form of flattering or something?  i see you pretty much built that frame the same way i did mine in the rat, but they are not indentical of course. i would imagine this is a pretty standard way of building a frame as im sure were not the first guys to do them this way.

Wow great progress... congrats on getting things underway! Thanks for the pics and updates, I have a feeling I will be learning a lot from your build (which in turn will help me with my '46 rat rod pickup) so I appreciate your post. Looks awesome so far can't wait for more!

PS - My wife loved the mugs!!! ;)

I already learned something, love the little posts the frame is resting on to get it off the floor and I am assuming close to actual ride height. Ed

Pretty much. The body will come up a little, and then maybe a bit more with the suspension, but will drop again when we throw the V8 on it

I dropped in there today to pick up the sheet metal brake, and got to see the frame. The frame is a real nice build and glenn works fast. I picked up a few tricks while I was there.

I kinda want to find a model A sedan and chop it down in to a coupe now. Or a 40 Ford pickup.

Build threads like this one, along with those of Invision and Pugsy, are going to be referred to over and over for years to come! Thanks for documenting it all with great detail to give us all a good look at what it really takes to take on such a big project!!!

I tend to stay away from diminishing tube size or multiple angle cuts because if they are not done right

they become weak points. I will provide measurements as we get further in to motor mounts, tranny mounts, spring perches and trailing arms

i missed that part of your post, i can understand for a basic frame getting into angles and tapering the rails can be tricky as i have done alot of metal fab like this over the years so i have a pretty good understanding of it.  making changes like that can add alot of time to a project.  the end result has to look good and be good.  i see stuff come from china and taiwan where they weld up stuff and then apply bondo over it to make it look smooth

Morning boys and girls

Thank you for the POSITIVE comments

The whole point of this frame build is to show a BASIC frame being built on a BUDGET

It basic but functional and strong and can be built with minimal tools and skills

Each one is similar but different for each car and ride hight

Yes ED I cut 1 in tubing to set ride hight. It allows me to set parts easily without adding more math

I will ad more a little later

Just as Glenn says....I'm watching him build this and I'm thinking it's not rocket science. There's no reason why we can't all do this with a bit of practice and the right tools.
I don't mean to take anything away from Glenn, he's building me a great frame, but we should'nt be scared of trying things ourselves and improving our own skill-sets.

oh for sure, this is why we build these things.  this project is your vision of the car you want, not what gm or ford or dodge decides for you.  you are fortunate to have someone with experience giving you some guidance, i wouldnt have thought to build my own vehicles 20 years ago, i wish i had done these things alot earlier in life and had a helping hand along the way.  its almost like the people who hate on the whole rat rod genre are the ones who dont like innovation or creativity.  its easier to hate and critisize what they dont understand,i think the rapper chamillionaire summed it up with, they see me rollin, they be hatin! lol

Too clean tho.

Looking forward to the automatic transmission rebuild thread in a couple of weeks !!

Frame looks good and beefy, and it's nice to see some pics of Grumps without his party hat on. Hopefully you'll be driving that car East of Toronto this summer.

I don't think so. There won't be any space for anything so may as well keep it simple.
