Day 4...

Decided to try and get started on the front. The I Beam needs a bit of work where the kingpins go through, but it will do for now.

The castor bars will need to be kinked a little, but I think it will add to the style of the car

We built up the new hubs and packed all the bearings with grease, so they are good to go. The Ford to Chev conversion kit from Speedway is excellent.

We made a spring perch out of some of the metal Hemikev donated, thanks bud

Just loving the stance of this rod so far!!!

 WOW!, thank you.

I can't get over the generosity of the good folk on here.

I'm going to have a helluva thank you list  by the end of this build.

I could go one better.

If you cover parts, I'll rebuild your tranny for you. And post pics as per Dan's request.

Busy weekend......

So far we are $235.00 in material for the frame and 10 hours

The front frame mount was cut from 1/4 plate....Dave made the template....It took about 1/2 an hour to make and mount

Im hoping the frame will be finished in about 20 hours as a roller.

The basic frame is a starting point for each car. Every frame is slightly different and mounting points have to be adjusted to work

Front and rear suspention theory has to be built into each frame to make it driveable.

If it doesnt drive nice.....it becomes a trud...... and nobody likes to drive a turd! I would say 20% of projects end up NOT being one of 2 things...

1...Comfortable.......2.....Drivable.....without either.....the owner will lose interest and it will either sit and collect dust.....or be sold and sold and sold

Next mounting the front end.....as soon as Dave buys or scrounges......some bits

ahahaha, like I have a clue!

Last time I had a carb was on my old Ford Cortina. No wait, I had one on that Valiant Charger, but I just hooked that up and it worked so I didn't need to know how

I suppose at this stage I would choose reliability over performance, so I am happy to take advice on this one.

Thanks Rochie

I don't think they will be free. If you look close, in all three of those pictures Fatchuk has inconspicuously included a box of latex/nitrile gloves. You may not be walking so straight after you pick those tail lights up.

Just warning you, thank me later!! biggrinbiggrin

Seriously Dave if I offer it it's yours ..I and many others here have grown fond of you Since your first posts form back home long before you landed here....you have fitted in well and are a rodder that has shown much commrodderie to all of us on here and I am glad to call you a friend.. I am sure many of us wish to help with your project as best we can so we can get you and Ailsa rolling down the hiways and biways of this great province and to the many great events and good times that Rodders seem to have at thier events..You have fit right in so lets get on with the project and when you have a need post and I am sure the others on here will come to the call to offer what they have ,,At the end of the week-end it's about having a great time, getting home safe so we can do it again the following week-end..There are miles and miles of rodders in Ont ..I would just be so cool one day to see about 100/300 of us rolling down the highway to one town or another for a swap-meet, or to sponsor another brother for a help or charity event, I have learned in life that what ever I give away is returned to me a hundred fold ..What we live we learn..what we learn is what we become.smile

Thats why I like you Chuk. Your wise beyond your years!

Someone years ago helped me get started in this. And now

Its my turn to "PAY IT FORWARD" to Dave. Most on this forum

have been very supportive and generous to Dave there was a post in the

Summer about this group of people helping build another persons car....

I think this could be a good candidate.....

Just sayin

wow, I may just cry a little. Thanks Chuck and Glenn, and everyone else of course

Had a great night down at Grumps, lots of grinding and cutting.

Day 5....

So I'm too cheap to buy a spring perch, so we made one.

1.jpg

2.jpg

Glenn bought me a wee present. We used the square plates from this kit, which are exactly the right size for the spring, so no drilling holes.

3.jpg

My jod is to remove the old spring perches and other tabs from the rear axle.

4.jpg

5.jpg

6.jpg

Glenn about to make the front castor bar brackets

7.jpg

I bought the metal tube from Metal Supermarket. Got about a foot for 2 bucks! lol

8.jpg

Rear axle smoothed down

9.jpg

Preparing the rear trailing arm brackets. More cutting required

10.jpg

Ran out of time real fast tonight, but got a lot done.

Put the body on the frame to keep it out the way. Glenn loves the drag stance, I'm not sold on it

are those rear trailing arm brackets store bought or did you fabricate them? if you did make them, how did you do it/what tools did you use to make them?

car is really coming along.

I made them............NOT !

I buy them from a buddy ( $5.00 a piece).....then modify to my needs

You will see when they are mounted the changes made.

As for taking care of Dave........FRAME WISE .......ONLY !

We are now 8 days into the Frame build....... about 14 hours...will be a roller by 20 hours

Completed with motor, battery, gas tank and body mounts.....by about 30 hours...by next weekend

Dave does not have a stearing box yet.....or that would be installed also

Just slackin......

thanks for the reply.

i was just wondering what tools/machinery glenn used if he made them. the holes and edges look way to clean to have been made in a drillpress with a hole saw and a chopsaw/electric hacksaw. obviously glenns 'guy' has access to some pretty sweet toolage.

didnt mean to suggest i need any brackets made.

whoops: was replying to dave and glenn got a post in before i could finish typing.   thanks guys

Is it one of the trucks with the shoulder belts built into the seat on the rear seats?  My friend used one of them in his model A and it worked great.
