Hey guys, what sort of battery should I be looking for?

350 sbc motor, electric fan, basic electrics

I'm guessing that a V8 requires a fair bit more juice than the wee 4 pots I've had all my life?

I would tend to think that Janice would be the most qualified to answer which batteries are best.

I agree with Dan....Janice has been causing southern Ontario "Brown Outs" for years

She would know what would get your "Crank Turning"

Me? Id use anything over 750 cca in a small package

Most V8's that I have had use an Group 78 Battery. If you get the 78DT, that gives you the option of top or side terminals.

most cranking amps in the smallest size which will fit your application, i like the sealed gel cell batteries myself as they can be mounted on thier side and even upside down.

          I just took my second Car Quest gel battery back and got a 78 series 850CC      The gel are supposed to be better

          Check out the CTC -40 battery on the  Ice Truck?      we built the chassis

For the 57 after running a old one from the scrap yard for 5 years I took a tape and measured the old one and bought one the same size. the one in my ranger is from a buddy that was scrapping out his Hyundai fit with zipcut. for three seasons and a tuned   car with a proper charging system just about anything should be good enough . crap the free hyundai fired my truck at -30 last week

   i am with slim on this one--a free one lol

 seriously any of the name brands should fit the bill. if your charging system is proper and i like to take them out for the winter if the car/truck is stored un-heated. in the spring put a battery tender on it and give it a cleaning you are good to go. anything 750cca should be lots.

i had up till about 2 years ago a canadian tire eliminator battery that i bought for my tow truck, it was in the truck for 7 years, i then replaced it and put it in my van and ran it for almost 2 more years, so i almost got 9 years out of a battery and it only really died cause i left my interior light on one night and killed it.

GM Batteries are great and have decent warranty but pricey.

Costco Batteries are a very inexpensive alternative. If you have a membership

Or you can get one like I have, They last 9 years and only cost $10,000 and cost $90,000 to install.

A little FYI on car batteries;
The GM battery plant in Oshawa (RIP) obviously built the batteries that went into the cars they built there, but few know that they also built the batteries for Sears, some Canadian Tire and Toyota or Honda (forgot which) as well as a few other unknown brands. They were all built on the same line, using the same process and the same cases. The only thing that was different between the brands was number and thickness of plates. It was one of the best battery manufacturing plants, but politics killed it unfortunately.
