Took the carb off the dodge this morning, WAS DIRRRTY. The spare didn't have a float but was cleaner, Also, had a 250 main jet and my carb has a 245. Will have to get
some jets for playing around. Also things gotta be balanced.
Here's a run of my cleanup and whatnot. Still need some parts, a float bowl, pin and 2 retainers. And jets...
Wow! dis-assembly at the table, washing in the kitchen sink AND DISHWASHER! and reassembly at the dining room table! Awesome! Can't say as I've tried that one yet!
The carbs look great! Did you dip them in carb cleaner and rebuild with a new kit and gaskets or are going to try them and hope for the best?

I don't know if you got this info or not but the distance between the centre of the end ports on the short manifold is 15" If you get stuck I do have some spare bits and pieces for those carbs. I'm going to get my son to post some pics of my set-up tomorrow night

Yeah nasty cleaning went on in the garage. The rest was spit and polish. Rebuilt with new kit and gaskets. Took an afternoon, those carter bbs are dead simple.
I will say it helps when your wife's dad's a mechanic and she's used to such things.
I've got the long manifold/engine. And WOWIE! thats a good looking plymouth.
I am looking for a 250 jet for these carbs. One was a 245 and one was 250 (the 245 was already on the car). I don't mind reaming the other out to match, but would be
nice to have the right jet.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I guess now I need air filters, I still have to sort the linkages out. Finally a reason to own a uni-syn. These carters can't be as miserable to set up as a pair of weber DCOE 50s...
Looks like this flathead has room to breathe. Tiny carb, restrictive exhaust manifold. Loooow compression.
With a little more work, compression bump, split exhaust/headers and a bit of tune it should get out of its own way.
Really though, the coolest part is having the speed bits to go with the car. Never thought that would happen. Totally random that I left the car parked at a friend's place and his neighbour had a manifold in the garage for years.
I've got a few of those Ball and Ball carbs around, late '30's. Do you know what model no.'s interchange? I'll look and see if I have a 250 jet in one of them.
That is a very rare intake if it's for the long engine, probably worth big bucks on ebay. I wish my Fenton had the water feature cuz my old Mopar does not like cool weather. Sorry but can't help you with jets.

Apparently so. No problem on the jets, I can solder up the big jet and just ream it to 245.
Yeah, I got a pic somewhere of my friend's 48 chev getting ice on the manifold but its over freezing out. The dodge with the stock manifold was perfectly happy to start at -26.
They are custom made headers that I bought quite reasonably from a guy on Vancouver Island. He had them made but never used them for reasons of his own.
