I buy from rock auto all the time, way cheaper prices, the price you pay including shipping is to your door, no extra brokerage or customs. some parts are not a deal due to higher shipping but most stuff is cheaper. usually 2 days ship depending on the item. also hard to find stuff that is no longer available here. I do it all online with paypal
Most of the items I've checked work out to what you can get it for here if you shop around. Shipping always kills the deal. It could also be a regional thing we have a lot of parts dealers competing against each other in this area.
I love using their website to look up part numbers to quote when ordering from suppliers up here ...
It really helps to be able to quote a specific part number when you go into a local supplier ... so they can order a particular part for you, but have no listing they can check on their system
Their 1-800 number works up here ... easy to talk to ... wish they had an outlet in Canada ...
Wish they would ship USPS so I could order from them ...
The brokerage fees are a real deal killer for me ... as they won't use USPS ... and don't really seem to care how much extra it is for an order coming into Canada ...
I ordered online last week a pair of mirrors for my suburban they are both power and heated.a little over $100 for both to my door came in 2 days.I dont think I could have got a pair of none power heated here for that price.I installed working good as to how long they will last?.but with all the chinese junk we are stuck with I thought what the hell for price.I would order again based on cost and speedy delivery.as mentioned taxes and delivery included in price you pay on checkout no extra fees.
I also use Rock auto a lot.. I have not found any place in Ont that can beat their price..I don't know where you get all this shipping an brokerage fees..Rock Auto does NOT charge any brokerage fees, they have their own broker and HST account so what you pay online is the full and final price no extra charges at the door,
Most of their parts are OE or top quality ..When you are shopping on their site you can pick cheap chit or name brand ..If your on their site shopping usualy you will see little red hearts which are what they sell most of in that line ..Their prices are about half of what you will pay here even with the shipping and I spend about $20,000.00 a year with them.
I would use them more only for the shipping time, my problem is some times I need the stuff to-day and some times they have taken up to 10 days before I get my stuff, most days it's it's less than 5 days and on occasion it has been the next day..I guess it depends which warehouse it's coming from.. And when you are ordering you need to pay attention to the shipping when your ordering so you get everything from the same warehouse or the shipping CAN get expensive if YOU THE BUYER do noy pay attention to the shipping..when you add stuff to your cart and go back shopping they will show a little sketch of a truck after you have put your first item in your cart make sure you always choose from the little truck sketch then it all comes from the same warehouse..just do a couple trial orders and then empty your cart till you figure it out..It is quite easy after you catch on how to order..
I think they are great, fast, super pricing, my jobber can't even come close on most stuff..Eg..I just ordered a complete front end upper and lower control arms with balljoints, tie-rod ends, sway-bar links and bushings, pads ,rotors my cost from Rock was just around $500 and my Jobber was over $1100 aal parts were doorman or Moog that was delivered to my door.. they give you a tracking number..I think they are great..Onr thing I am very carefull about is to make sure I got the right parts as I think if I have to send anything back that could be a hassel so get it right..
I give them a 2 thumbs up... for price, good customer service, OEM and top quality parts, very reasonable shipping time and price, great online exploded pictures of the parts and OEM part numbers..
There web site is second to none for price checking . Just went and tried looking up a few things seems now when your choice of parts come up they have can ship from Canada . Truck with Canadian flag on the box. NICE.
Got the gas tank, sending unit & straps for the 57 from them. Delivered to my door total price was still less than the local parts store quoted for just the tank.
They also give you the option to have the items shipped by postal.
I once bought a NEW distributor for a Honda Accord, no jobber in the area could beat the price.
It was defective, had to send it back for a replacement. No charges on my side and had the replacement within a week.
I have ordered other stuff from them and would order from them again.
I have ordered from them many times. Some times I have it shipped to my house and sometimes I have it shipped to CBI depending on many different factors.
Either way I have to ask where the brokerage fees come in? We pay the HST just like anyone else. Watch out for the shipping on some things, I got caught with consolidated shipping once and it was 10 days until I got my parts and too late as I had to close up the motor.

Ordered online with no problems.
Must be like beer. Sad when you have to go to the US to get a gas tank cheaper thats made in Canada. Spectra premium ind. I know for the trucks you can't find a better OEM fit. guys in the states swear by them ,even though they are made in Canada.
I bought an ignition switch for a Grand Prix. $121.00 shipped to my door by Rock Auto. $321.00 from the local parts store. Box showed up and said Made in Canada. go figure.
Its hard to beat their prices - particularly when they offer a multitude of manufacturers and prices of the same part. Large items shipped into Canada cost relatively more than smaller items so for example you might find there is no savings buying a rad from them and shipping it up here. Smaller stuff is a way better deal on shipping. I got 2 power/heated mirrors for my Jetta shipped up here for less than a single one off a wreck! Likewise, a Ford starter shipped up here for less than half of the cheapest I could find up here. Just watch if you're ordering a bunch of stuff to keep the number of shipping locations to a minimum. Sometimes you're better off paying a little more for an item that is stocked at the same warehouse as other parts you're buying.
Ordered an oil pan and Gasket from them. Parts to my door in 4 days at about 60% cost of best price I could find Local for the same brand name parts. I will definately buy from them again.
Anyone order from Rockauto lately? Any change in tariff fees? I use Rockauto all the time when I am down south, but being up here for the summer,I went to NAPA to price out some parts for the 1986 F150 600.00 Canadian, 250.00 Canadian from rock auto shipping is about 80.00. I try to buy Canadian when I am up here, but can't justify the price difference. So basically what I am asking, is anyone get parts from Rockauto lately. Thanks

Rockauto is one of the better places to buy online. You'll know exactly what that item will cost before you place your order. I ordered something a few weeks ago with zero issues.
There are also some good Canadian automotive websites to order from, but they have limited stock.
to answer the question about brokerage fees from a little way back up the page...
when something is shipped via UPS , FED X or the like , UPS or FED X PAY THE TAX ON THE ITEM AT THE BORDER
for this service they charge a brokerage fee
now , when something is shipped USPS it comes across and goes to canada post
when the canada post employee arrives at the door with your package they collect the tax from you
- BECAUSE as a federal employee THEY CAN collect the tax on the spot
that is not a true statement when I order from them the price I pay on their invoice when ordering is my final cost no bs at my door.even when I ordered from epay years ago unless sent by ripoff UPayS.or FEDup you payed their ransom at your door.once in a while I payed when sender used USPS by that I mean one in a hundred.I suggest you check your facts before making a statement about something you know nothing about
You are correct. Summit offers an all in service including shipping, taxes and brokerage, Speedway does not. Most companies do not unless they are really hot after the Canadian market. Most US companies now offer free shipping on orders over $99 to the contiguous US, but no such luck for Canadians, that is why I get most things shipped to a US border drop point and then just pay the HST if necessary when I pick them up. For the longest time Canada Post ignored any fees for US shipments but not any more. I think Revenue came down on them. By the way, I have imported in excess of 10K this year alone, some direct ship to home but most to drop points and I have encountered every scenario but most paid here if not from Summit.
99% of the time the price at the checkout of rock auto is the price at the door . it will say taxes and duty and show them which shipping cost at checkout. I had one order come through without it once >>>> my fault not paying attention and it was a reasonable amount. tariffs haven't changed on auto parts Nafta is still in place. trump could kill the deal but the trade laws would still be in place till congress revokes them.
if you have got off the toilet this post was about rock auto not joe blow speed parts.they have their own broker so your post was not relevant to the discussion on rock auto.repeat ROCK AUTO you pay the taxes at time of purchase as to what you pay I dont give a shyt

This thread went on great for 4 years and now has suddenly degenerated into nothing but a piece of ****. This seems to happen all too often. Are we all just becoming a bunch of crotchety old men? Let's get back to talking cars and if you don't understand someone's input, ask.
Personally, I kinda miss the kind of world where you can call a man a Richard when you think he deserves it. In the current world of cyber bullying and political correctness I suppose we should all take time to indulge in "deep reflection" when someone raises a contrary point of view. The way I see it, most of the folks are on this board because they have a passion for getting things done, if that earns me the title of "king richard" now and then, I probably earned it. My rant, enjoy!
sorry guys usually I'm the most easy going person you could hope to know but when needlessly challenged I will often rise to that challenge
still tryin' to avoid becoming one of those 50 something a-holes ... I don't wanna become a grumpy old man ...

Darn ! I wanted to see some more bickering. About the only thing worth reading on here anymore. 1700+ members and no builds going on or anything else interesting. I'd be happy to even see a mobility scooter build by one of you old farts. LOL
I am thinking of roding my scooter looking for parts that will be non taxable from my elder pittance known as fixed income.then it dawned on me why not google as it your friend when you need information.too easy I know need help with phrasing the question what is a broker and why do I need one?
I already built my scooter, dubbed the "Syracuse Cruiser". I just built and installed a cup holder to hold my beer. It was sorely lacking last year.
Thus no build thread, and I didn't use any Rockauto parts on it either.
If any one wants to see it. I'll be camping again this year by the fence of the entry gate at Syracuse.

I have a gut feeling most of the members here will not be attending the Syracuse show. Most will probably watch Wheel of Fortune then take their Metamucil and be in bed by 9:00 pm.
