Hi folks and thanks for the welcome here. So nice to find a local forum for a change.
Just a guy who has always loved cars and need to share. I have a 1971 Capri that I brought up from Texas 2 years ago. This is a replacement of the car I had when I was 16 and wrecked. I am slowly gathering the few parts I will need to have her pass an Ontario Safety and then I can drive her a bit. I am going to leave it with the patina on her for now and see how I feel but I did save her from being turned into a track car. I will post pics as I go
Welcome from St. Catharines. Good to see someone with an interest in a Capri. I've got a couple of 2.8 v6's that I hope to use for a future project, neat engine. I'm still looking for a copy of Sven Pruett's book on modifying these engines. You'll enjoy this forum.
Welcome to the board...I LOVE those Capris. Had a 76 but they never looked as good as the MkI's. you must have a hell of a time finding parts, those cars simply vanished of the face of the earth save for in the UK.
If you ever go to sell it, I want to know....

Welcome to he board Super Bee. Wow does that car bring back high school memories. A couple buddy's of mine had them, and drove the wheels off of them. Very fun cars for sure. I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with it.
No Mercury didn't make the Capri until 79, based on the mustang platform. The Ford Capri ran from 69-74 in the MkI that you see here. The MkII ran from 75 to 78

I had a 1972 in high school that I drove the wheels off and I hated myself for doing it. I have been looking for another one of these for about 25 years and found this in Texas and the planets aligned so with the wife's blessing I bought it. It had some mods done to it to start its transformation to a track car but I stopped it before it went too far. I had the racing seats and roll bar removed but I left it lowered the bit it has been dropped.
It was a 1600cc car but it now sports a 2600 cc engine and a really chopped up wiring harness which I am going to redo so it is clean once again. I have many parts for it and since it is not going to be a concourse car I am going to do the minimal I can to change it's appearance and drive and enjoy it.
As for the discussion of Mercury or Ford kind of both correct. The car was manufactured in Cologne Germany by Ford but was imported to North America under the Mercury name. Parts are a bitch but if you keep your eyes peeled and move a few rocks you find them here in Canada but a lot can be found in the states. The best trim and chrome comes from the UK and I have had a few pieces shipped here but not much as it is expensive and I can find it here if I am willing to wait.
I had a '73, when I was in High School. I too drove the tchit out of it, had a v6 and 4 speed. Great for delivering pizza. I only had it for about a month or so, then sold it, made a good profit.
Funny I was just looking last week for one, since I haven't seen one around in years. It was a nice, fun car to drive.
I'm also kinda keeping my eyes open for a decent '72 Celica and/or a '71 Datsun 240Z. All cars I had in High School.
Welcome from Vineland Anthony. A friend had one back in the early 80's, stuffed a 302 into it. Used some Mustang Ghia pieces if I remember right. Went like stink but didn't want to stop as quick. Nice car ya got there.
