Unlimited Excitement (yawn ) at the Nascar Unlimited

So you missed seeing the rockem sockem Nascar Unlimited 75 last night ?....here's the Coles Notes Version

1. First I have to thank Nascar ...been having trouble getting to sleep lately but after last nights race I slept like a baby . They strung  a 1/2 hour show into 3 hours .

2. The Pace Car done blowed up ! Yep , little blue Chevy something-or-other started belching smoke in the pace lap and the driver and co-driver had to bail out .

3. The TV coverage is giving more attention to the rear of the field ...oops , that would be The Danica .

4.J.J. hit the wall ....the cheering you might have heard was your's truly .

5. Sadly , Tony and Kurt DIDN'T get into a fight ...they're teamies now ( but don't let that get in the way )

6. Finally , I located the "mute button " on my controller , or as I like to call it , the " block out Michael Dumbass Waltrip " button . No wonder Buffy left him .

I dunno. Driving around a track turning left only is only half-racing.
Give me something where shifting hapens 90% of the time, where braking is an art, and you turn the car in BOTH directions....THAT is racing.

I think they should introduce figure 8 last car standing qualifiers and award sponsors in ascending order drawn from a hat. In the event of a tie team owners square off in a bitch slap fight till one starts crying. they should put a penalty pen on the grass in front of the pits for anyone that throws a temper tantrum or fights during that race week. Anyone who causes a crash should be financially responsible for every ones damages and get a bare ass spanking in the winners circle. Just a thought, NASCAR has become the biggest racing joke on television IMO.

When they say they are going to let them race it should be just that .They used to say rubbin is racing now rubbin is grounds for fines and primadona drivers whining and owners crying.Let them race, points for 1st thru 3rd and everyone else lost so deal with it.Win or go home should be the new NASCAR motto. They started to see the writing on the wall this year with some new rules ,lets just hope they keep going in that direction. El Toro , I like your idea ...a figure 8 would get my attention . Best races I've seen are Bristol ...especially the August night race ...was there for the famous Earnhardt " I was just trying to rattle his cage race " when he took out Labonte on the final lap . That's when they had the front and back pits and you virtually COULN NOT win from the back pit ...but Earnhardt did so in another race . He was worth the price of admission .

I think NASCAR was dead long before that. When cubic dollars took over and rule books got so thick that you need a university degree to read them. That's when I stopped watching it.

I'll tell you one track that is great "bang for the buck " , about a half hour from me outside Chatham , is South Buxton Speedway . It's a small dirt oval ( egg shaped to be more exact ) and they put on a good show for the money ( I get in for the Old Farts rate , under $10 ) .......it's hokey as hell but these guys are avid racers . The track officials keep things running in a very timely manner .

Once a year they should drive period correct 1968-1971 cars for a points race. That I would watch.

Do you guys follow the vintage racing club over there .We only get to see them a couple of times on this side of the big smoke.I also enjoy the little vintage cars with the motorcycle motors,I can't remember what they are called. I agree,at least one points race a year, vintage body styles say nothing newer than 1980.Wouldn't that bump the prices of old cars with all the teams scrambling for bodies to adapt.Could be good for everybody.  The racing is pretty close, not like it was when the cars were cool - Now if we could get Cool cars and tight racing, then we'd have something!!!!

I doubt theres much about the Toyota race cars that are really Toyota, due to the rules they must follow what parts would be Toyota?  cylinder heads maybe?

Toyota, Ford and Chevy all run their own engines. But they are all proprietary race pieces not based off of production engines. All 16 valve pushrod V8's.

Toyota has nothing to do with it. None of those cars on the track have hardly anything to do with factory models. I say bring back the old days where you had to take a factory built car, heavily modify it and go racing. Toyota is built in entirety here now...may as well be domestic. No sense getting wet eyes about the country of origin. More pacific rim parts in the big 3now what's the diff??

Actually, what I said summed it up earlier. Nascar died for me when they ceased to be real cars. (AKA, cars coming off of the production line, and sent to the race shop)
Now with to sort-of facimile of a car, and restrictions...its nothing more than drivers. They may as well run down the track

Just wondering what % needs to be produced ,or assembled IN CANADA to be considered domestic because the U.S.A. is a foreign, non domestic country,no different as far as I see than any other car producing country so any part of the process done in the U.S. can not be concidered CANADIAN or domestic. Canada has no domestic auto industry ever since Bricklin went tits up in 74.......I guess we are talking North American as domestic. I dont see why we would as Canadians, because the Americans would throw us under the bus if it would help them at all.

NASCAR needed Toyota to prop up dwindling attendance.....I guess the NA in NASCAR doesnt mean North American anymore, it means Nearly All

No point in running down the track, they are only 1/8 th mile , No turns , no shifting, only 2 at a time

The point I'm trying to make is that the so called imports are now manufactured here. Look at the Magna, Linamar, Collins & Aikman, Jefferson, Musashi, Lear, TG Minto plants to name some local factories. They make driveline, interior and body parts for Toyota, Honda and the big 3. I can walk through those plants and see big three parts on one aisle and "import" parts down the next. Southern Ontario pumps out tons of auto parts. You cant call them "Imports" anymore. They are NA produced.

Are Canadians being paid to build these cars?
That is the best part right there. Cut down on the imports and keep our boys working.
Ford has announced something about all Ford vans or something will be built in Oakville. Ford is a foreign company, too. But I like the idea of the work it will provide.
Do you think someone in another country will refuse to buy a Canadian built car because it is foriegn?
Be thankful for the jobs these foreign companies have provided.

I too look at the traditional 'Big Three' as the major auto manufactures in Canada but the reality is Toyota is or will soon be the largest. G.M.Canada has gone from over 45000 hourly workers to less than 3800. If you add Cami in Ingersoll which G.M.owns and operates but pretends it is a separate company it brings the total hourly in Canada to aprox.5000. The profits go to the U.S.A. where G.M. has stated the focus of future growth is China. Ford is down to less than 3000 hourly in Canada and their profits also go to the U.S. This company who took great pride in not taking govt. . bailouts now wants millions from the various levels of govt. to retool the Oakville ass. plant [tax payers money.]Chrysler has also shrunk down to approx. 4500 hourly and the profits go to the owners in Italy. Honda has less than 2000 hourly and obviously their profits go to Japan..this leaves Toyota. The profits go to Japan but in their plants in Woodstock and Cambridge they have approx. 4000 hourly and are still hiring . Sorry guys but the definition of Canadian auto manufacturing is changing

B.T.W. this thread sure has taken a major turn from the orig. post. Every one who says NASCAR racing isn't what it once was is correct. I've been to a lot of races including the Daytona 500 and am not interested in going again BUT i will watch the Twins on Thurs. and the race on Sunday in front of the big screen while they spend millions and millions of dollars trying to entertain us.Hope whoever watches enjoys.

There goes Poncho deleting threads again and totally confusing things. This is getting a little tiring as soon as we get into a debate over things.

....meanwhile , back at Nascar , think I might tune in to the 500 ....don't like "plate racing " but it beats the heck out of interracial 2-man luge or left handed ice dancing ...or whatever "important" Olympic event is on .

Agreed great site but evidently not for everyone. An opinion is just that an opinion, not riight or wrong just different.I guess if you don't like to hear a different opinion, maybe stay on the build threds. Ed

Jarvis, there have been several examples of buy American supporters really being pissed off and refusing delivery or wanting there money back citeing false advertizing when they found out there American made car or truck was actually built in Canada. Buy American doesn't mean buy North American to the Yankies. Ed

Interesting you say that..   with 335 million (approx) Americans

Don't you think, that the buying of imports, has been accelerated by them ??    just wondering
