So, One of the biggest things for me as a car guy moving back to ON, was the ability to throw 1949 plates on the Dodge. In AB, you could do this, but it was kind of complex, you had to keep the original plate in the glovebox, and the Year of plate technically was only good for "parades" or shows or something. That was my understanding at least.
Very nice. My year is 1952 and they say there was no plates that year. Paper sticker went on windshield. Something about war effort?
Maybe in 42.....WW2 was 39-45.....I am pretty sure I have seen 52 plates
Seems you are right...found this
"ONTARIO 1952 license plate NON-PASSENGER
While Ontario used the 1951 license plates with a windshield sticker in 1952 to validate the plates for that year some non-passenger types like this 1952 trailer plate were issued a dated 1952 plate.
The 1952 dated Ontario plates were somewhat larger than the regular passenger issues and the crown returned as it did again on passenger plates when the 1951 plate was replaced in 1953.

What do you think the odds are of me finding a 1952 sticker and if I do find one do you think I will be able To register a sticker?
Did you get the plates registered OK cuz when I tried to register my 49 plates they told me the number series was now being used on motorcycles and they wouldn't do it.
Before spending the cash on a set of plates, you can always call the registration office and have them check the plate number for you.
I have done this with a few 1958 plates.
Did they tell you where they want the validation sticker, upper right hand corner might be a little tight? I was going to get them for my 1967 Beaumont, but they said there was no place to put the sticker on the 67s plate so they refused them What a load of crap.

Yes, you call them in and ask if the number is in use, if not you are ok. Its not about a series though, its if that number is free in the DB.

There are no auto plates for 1952. To register YOM plates for Ontario vehicles of model year 1952, you will require a set of 1951 plates, plus a 1952 validation sticker.
Apparently those stickers can be found. And MTO accepts them.
I've seen some YOM plates with the Validation sticker placed in the middle of plate between the gap in the #'s & wondered if it was legal??? Also keep seeing "all out" Rods & customs wearing "Historic" plates & thats going to catch up with them sooner or later, as the vehicle "CAN NOT" be modified from orginal other than "safety up grades" ie. tires, brakes, glass etc. It could result in these plates being cancelled for the people that do qualify, with all the "abuse" thats being comitted!!Also your Ins. could be cancelled,if caught or in a accident, due to Fraud, to save a few bucks!!! Maybe Gov. should come out with a "plate" for these modified vehicles as well, not being driven like a daily driver???

The wording when you apply for these plates says the vehicle cannot be ' substantially modified'whatever that means. There is no list or legislation that I know of that states what is acceptable or not.

As I have said in previous posts, part of the problem is the Service Ontario kiosks pushing these plates for whatever the reason. Last spring while plating the Cougar, the lady behind the counter was a little put out that I didn't bite on her offer. She said "A car that age really should have historical plates" "No thanks, I know the rules" Then she was kinda snippy and I was thinking "What's the deal with that?" Others that are unaware of limits and restrictions with these plates would be easily swayed, I'm sure.

I would say "dropping a V8" in where a 6cyl. was, is "substantial" or a T-bucket hot rod with historic plate!! these 2 cars "don't qualify" but have them???
I agree that no modified vehicle [under present legislation] should be running "Historic" plates! I wouldn't even think about putting them on my '28, even if it did save me a few dollars [to start with].
I have two questions: 1- Aren't YOM plates treated the same as Historic plates [no mods, parades & shows, test, tune and selling only]?
2- Not allowed on 400 series highways?

No, YOM plates are essentially Vanity plates. No restrictions, same cost as vanity plates.
