Cars you just don't see anymore!

Recently a new member signed in, stating he had a '71 Capri. I think it's a neat car, I used to own one, and you just don't see them around anymore.

71 Capri.jpg

By the time I turned 20, I had already bought and sold 20 or so cars, many of which you just don't see regularly.

Like this Firenza, I figured it would make a great Drag car.

This Cortina,

a '72 Celica.

Or this Honda Civic,

This Datsun 240Z,

Good 'ol Corolla, cheap as you can get,

They were all fun, affordable cars. Yeah, I realize there all imports, but most of the cars from the big 3, are not all that uncommon to see.

I am the new member with the Capri and that pic you posted was the exact car I had when I was 16 and the car that I am going to recreate. I think it is a beautiful looking car and cannot wait to drive it around this summer looking a bit rough but hey I have a plan. This is the car in storage here in Canada with some of my other cars

i loaned my car dolly to a friend this past weekend to pick up a 72 crown, pretty funky project i might add. further note i worked with a fellow in the early 80's (nepean ont) that had a capri with a funky vinyl top in a flower pattern. only car i ever saw that wasn't a straight colour for vinyl.

Yes exactly right, called The Mod top..very late 60s-early 70s. Color keyed to the paint. Flowers or paisley

Yup, the Mopars were Mod Tops, here's the registry, and lots of pics.

www.mooresmopars.com/modregistry.html.

They'll be one for sell at the Toronto Classic car spring auction, a '69 yellow Barracuda (Mod Top).

There was a Dodge with a mod top at Syracuse last year. According to the owner it was one of 2 left. After looking at it you know why most guys pealed them off and replaced them with black or body color.

Pinto wagon first hot rod I was ever in, brothers friend owned it. It had a hopped up 4 cyl, Mag wheels, and fender flares done in metal. When I was 12 it was really cool.

Olds Omega, Help a friend build one, tubbed, 455 olds with a tunnel ram. Tilt front end, roll cage etc. Drank a lot of beer during that build.

32165840016_large.jpgGT3_Datsun_510.jpgThe only ones I miss are the Capri and Celica. I don't recall ever seeing a Firenza, though its a smart looking little car.

I'd like to have one of these gems;

sweet datsun 510 that was my dad's first car. I love the old 71 capri it's nice seeing different cars because no matter how fancy you camaro/mustang/ charger/etc they blend in usually.

That's why I like them so much. So sick of the camaro this, chevelle that, mustang anything....even Mopars which I've always been the most fond of all look the same. The last moparfest I went to, I had glazed over by row 3. The only car in the whole event that stuck with me was the 64-65 Barracuda with a engine compartment stuffed full of a small block with a twin turbo.

Not to mention the values of said cars. Its become stupid (not that a mint 510 hasn't reached big dineros)

When is the last time you saw an Isetta on the road ?

The article 'claims' that all ten of these guys got 'into it' ... Ontario 1960 ...  no

http://hotrodsandjalopies.blogspot.ca/2010_03_01_archive.html

With another picture of what they look like when they aren't being abused ... smile

I really wanted a Model T or Model A to convert to electric ... but I ended up with a 1958 Isetta instead ... wink

Maybe I'll trade up when I finish this one ... hmm
