Some posts on another thred go me wondering. Some people say they would rather drive there car than partisipate in the lawnchair cruisenight .O K fair enough ,but do you . How ofton, how far. I know some of you guys go to a couple of far away shows every year ,some show up every weekend to the local parking lot . Some do both. Some cars never get out at all. Some thrash there cars at races ,others are the featherduster type.
My self I like to go to the cruises and say hello to the people,as for the cars ,well I have been seeing most of them for years so no thrill there. I don't usually stay long but I do enjoy seeing who is there and if there is something new. No long trips for me as the car is not a crosscountry cruiser and never will be . I race it a couple of times a year and fix it a couple of times a year. I enjoy touring with the club when I can get them together. I guess the delivery is out at least 3 or 4 times a week. Insurance says I can't drive it to work but I can drive I for maintainince so I do a lot of road tests on the new air I put in the tires. Besides its good advertizing for my business.
So then what about the rest of you daily, weekly, cruise nights, shows, holidays, raceing. I don't care about howmany miles its driven because you could use the car once a year and chalk up more mile on that one trip than the guy who drives his car everyday. I would just be interested in how often do you use your old hotrod and what do you use it for. I appoligise for being so nosey. Ed
once spring is here and the road almost clear of sand, the beast is the daily driver till they spray sodium chloride on the off ramps, that being said. i will also go to the east coast again this year, plus tow a camping trailer down to syracuse. i'll also make a couple of runs up to ottawa, and some down to brantford, i'm also hoping to make it over to london. besides that i'll see what weekly cruises i can squeeze into my off hours.

There are 106 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Like Steve said, I wait till we've had a few good rain showers to get rid of all the salt off of the roads, and usually drive it till mid November. I averaged about 5000 miles per year, but the past few a little less. The problem is that there's too many things to do in the summer and car stuff is just a small part of it. Two summers ago, I put almost as many miles on my off-road buggy as I did on my car.
Daily plated commercial so it sees most of the 400 series highways each week. not a big fan of cruise nights but always up to looking for junk. i keep a few accentual parts under the seat and got a box full of tools so there's never been anything that came up that couldn't be dealt with . worst thing that happened was the rocker snapped off # 1 exhaust at 120 km/hr surprise me more when i stopped that all the rods where still inside the block . pulled the broken shaft out and pulled the plug drove it anther 100 kilometers till i could put a new shaft in that night.
i drive almost daily all summer in something. probably the 50 gets the most use. the only time i trailer is with the chevelle and the slicks are on. the coronet and the chevelle both have o/d trannies and i enjoy a weekend tour here and there. i'm actually looking forward to the 67 galaxie vert done. i can see it getting some hiway miles on it and styling. lol
Myself usually out once a week. Try to get to Bracebridge, marmora, uxbridge and Pickering for Karbelts doo once a season. Get to local cruise nights in Port hope every other week. Best part is driving to and from for sure. Secondary roads only due to diff gears.

Both of my cars, the 57 and the 29(no roof) have been to B.C. and back for Deuce Days on the island. The 57 has been to "Back to the Fifties" in Minniapolis and then on to Thunderbay and back home. As well as the C.R. tour of Ontario a few years ago. Both have been to Dayton and Cinncinati OH.and all over Michigan. I drive both of them when ever I can. The 57 comes out first and goes to sleep last, but the roadster gets to stretch her legs a LOT, even if it's just a run to the beach for the day. Earliest the roadster has been out is early May for Billetproof in Ypsilanti MI. (I keep a trapper's hat under the seat)
Anybody thinking about the standing mile at Willmington Oh. in April? I REALLY like the Salt but Willimington is SOOOO much closer.
We do a lot of cruise nights during the week but every weekend we're either racing or cruising to a show or day trippin' around Ontario. Track opens Mar28, so a lot of work to get both cars back together by then. This year my son and I plan to run the full ONDR schedule, hopefully without too much breakage. It might be time for the TKO conversion by the looks of the price of fuel.
I always plan on Steve Plunkett Fleetwood Cruise and Bothwell and Zurich Bean Fest that gives me access to several thousand cars
Most of the time my car sits in the garage
I have tried the local car show, and tried to be friendly..
but most of the old buzzards are cuddled up to their buddies in lawn chairs, and would not pass the time of day..
God help them if they had to stand up and show their cars
I watched the same bunch attend a show, and they parked all their chairs in the middle of a aisle and no one could pass throiugh

I do enjoy my friends on the internet sites...
I hope to get to some races at St Thomas this year
I am closer to Grand Bend but unless you have a trailer / tent to sit in, you have to BURN "on the bleachers" while they drag a 3 hour program into 8 hours
and with the experience with the ONDR (buddies only) at the Bend I'll just stay away...
I used to enjoy driving my old cars but with the OPP sniffing around its get boring driving 80km
During the summer driving season..I drive my car pretty much daily..I live in the booneys about 15 ks to town..We do have paved roads so thats good.. I can't say I drive back and forth to town every day but lots of days I do..If I have to make a trip to london, Stratford or anything like that I always try to drive my coupe except for an occasional day that the bugs are really bad..it has too much fender and mass murders a lot of bugs that seem to like embedding their gooey carcass's into the paint..but I do love driving my car as opposed to sitting in a lawn chair sitting beside it ..I much prefer looking down the hood from the driving position..
Crusie nights/sit and parks..haven't done one of them for about 7 maybe 8 years..just not into setin around in parking lots on a warm summer evening, much rather drive up to the lake at Goderich, or the bend or just a cruise someplace..I do like to visit with some friends as much as anybody and I seem to get all I need for that fix..I do need to get a burger fix from time to time, so I don't mind the odd burger joint cruise ..but I like to get the witch to pack a lunch and hit a nice park and have a little picknic...We have a georgous Park in Statford right down by the festival and it runs right along the river..great to go for a little walk and exercise me and the dog..
I would like to see a little more family involved in the "cruise's" like how about a get to-gether for a travel game like having a 50 k run and having to make certain stops and get your card stamped or that sort of thing ..A summer Bar-B-Q with a baseball game, or some slow drags , or there are several kinds of family things that the kids, wifes could feel more a part of the hobby than just be a bunch of guys who never include our family in our hobby..It is one thing I have regretted that there are not a lot of things we do as a group that includes family..at least not enough in my view..I have 5 acres of lawn and would be glad to host a bar-B-Q and some kind of summer games if anybody had an interest in helping to arrange some sort of thing..I have plenty of room for camping.. But I would leave that to anybody who had any interest in being part of an organizer..
Seems like our summers go preety fast and the older I get they even come and go faster..kinda like getting to end of the toilet paper roll..
I'm sure that many members have to limit the miles driven due to the cost, 3000 miles/season is pretty much the limit for us as there are other priorities. We try and plan a couple longer distance events each year, Syracuse, Fleetwood cruise in, NSRA Vermont or maybe the Atlantic Nationals. Cruise nights take up about 3 nights/week, local shows are pretty much every weekend if you want.
Well I'm a true "gear head" & go to as many cruise's & shows as I can squeeze in through the short season!!! Guess i don't have a "life but being single "HELPS"!!!
Other than the "car scene" but i do enjoy it, & do at least 4 cruises thru the week, [sometimes 5], then see what's going on for the wknd. I used to put 7000 mi. in the 64 Catalina ea. summer, but now having 2 on the road, it's still 3000 to 3500 on ea. one.I don't stay by the car & meet all diff. people "all" with the same interest, & see a lot of different vehicles. Uxbridge is the "BEST" with over 300 most nights & should be even better with the "NEW" location in a park setting, & tons of room for "MORE"

I am with you on this one Pete. I do the same thing and Uxbridge is definitely on my bucket list for this summer. Where are they moving too? Is it going to be around the pond??

Carl hit the nail on the head. I used to enjoy cruise nights locally but they play the music at a level I can't hold a conversation and its not music I want to hear anymore. I been hearing the same 50s CD for 25 years. So we venture out instead to other cities, towns for their cruises and find a great variety of music, cars and people. And alot less lawn chairs. If we go to a show its not to baby sit or alarm our car....we go to see other cars. Last thing I want to do is see/stand/sit next to my own cars. I came to see all of yours. Unless Im not well Ill sit or eating. We could care or less if 1 single person looks at our cars. We drove to see yours. Unless i trip over a lawn chair then I walk right past.
We really enjoy out of town shows, Plunketts, Woodward, Grand Bend, Sparta dragways, Bothwell and so on. 98% of the bugs are worked out in my kids car, and our plan is to put some serious miles on it this year. Fun, Fun, Fun. Alot of people get a kick out my kids car because his age, knowledge, interest in the hobby. We generally like odd ball stuff to look at. The under dogs. People like us who have srapped pennies to put cars together out alot of heart into their cars. But hey, a gallon of wax and a bucket of armour all does wonders! LMAO!
I go to see other builds and meet others. I know all about mine. I enjoy them all.......but really dig the more creative/odd ball builds. Worth driving further to see something different.
I live in Georgetown and work in TO. After driving all day I do not feel like going anywhere. The traffic around here is crazy-they would just as soon run you off the road-old car or not! I would rather stay at home in my shop and work on them. I can hardly wait to retire and move somewhere quieter so I can enjoy driving my cars without worrying about being cut off or rear ended. Rant over.
If I'm in town you can probably find me at Mackies in Pt Stanley 2 or three times a week or on weekends in the St Williams area. I drive it as much as possible
We take our cars out at least a couple of times per week. On the weekends the wife and I have been skipping the shows and picking destinations for lunch or ice cream and then taking day trips. Usually 100 > 150 miles one way. then we pick a nationals to go to if we can afford it. Our big trip came 2 years ago, 23 days to tour route 66 from end to end in her 38 Chevy. racked up 7500 miles on that one trip. Other long trips have included; Pigeon Forge, TN, Daytona, turkey run, Kalamazoo, Columbus, Charlotte auto fair.
As to local cruise nights, we tend not to repeat them, the same people parked in the same spots week after week..................With the number of cruise nights and shows available, you could spend the whole summer driving to them and never hit the same one twice..............we tend to drop in at quite a few,as time permits, but never stay long, Could be anywhere from Brantford to Rochester............

They are moving to Elgin Park!!! Twp. finally gave permission to use it after many council meetings & hearings??? Anyway should be better in the Park. Directions will be advertised later but I've heard we have to use the entrance from the "Parkway" than goes from "OLD 47" [or Toronto St.] down to the 7th. Con. Pete
