I liked to get some info about renting a room for the wife close to The TGH . The need may happen anytime after the 18 of march.........as soon as they call me for my liver transplant ..............i may need it up to 12 days if things work out and the re no rejection ........
Anyone knows of which motel is within 15 minutes for the 17,18 of march..as i prefer taking a cab than driving in TO
Contact the Transplant Department at TGH. They have people there to help with what you require. They have a great support system for you and your family.
There are a few places that are close by but as stated above contact the transplant team. TGH and all the hospitals have agreements with some of the smaller places downtown so you do not get killed on cost. Check into the Primrose on Carlton and Jarvis as well, it is student housing as well so I am sure it can be a little less expensive than others.
Really nice to know of that family support service .......specially when i have so many things to think about ........not that i have to worry about the money , but for my kids to travel and probably may have to take time off work .........Thanks
After spending the last 8 months knowing i was dying .........to get the call will be like winning a 6/49........except that money don t buy you a liver.................getting the transplant is a high risk but the chance at living longer is bigger..........without it i ll probably be gone before this year is over ...........greatest thanks for the wishes from you guys and girl........all that support is sure appreciated ..................and thanks to god for sure
Hope and pray things get better for your health. That is quite the ordeal. Having loss of health sucks. Some people will never get it until it happens to them. Pray for speedy recovery. Godspeed. Pm if needed.
My neighbor had a liver transplant 2 years ago now......He was in real rough shape just before a donor came up. He got lucky....He is doing quite well these days. I am sure you will come though fine too...best wishes
hi for the ones who ask to be kept inform ......on the progress ......the appointment on the 18 had lot of positive side ......while still not as encouraging when you look at it differently cause the transplant may happen but probably may be in a year or two ?? or i ll eventually die before
it will take the next 2 months just to finalize all this paper work before to be officially on the list .......after that it s like back to square one waittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
and hope that the pager that i ll have to carry ring or beep ....
time is the big question if a living donor match is found the hope become bigger if i have to wait for a liver from someone who pass away , chances get smaller
to be accepted for donor you have to be 18 to 60 years old ....
and so people know a living donor only gives 60 % of is her liver and after 6 weeks the liver is back to the same full size as before the donation
to be a match the person has to have the blood type first ......than need to be around the same height and weight ......5 feet 10 and 230 llbs and the liver as to be close to the same size .....and the person as to be living in ontario only for the cost of the surgery to be paid .....or if had someone from quebec where most of my relatives are i would have to come up with the cost of the surgery up front .......that number could easily reach in the hundreds of thousandsssssssssssss
Wow, didn't realize liver comes back so fast. Age, height and weight requirements as well. Really makes me more aware.
I think in general unless its happening to someone in our families or close friends, we don't consider donating. I donate blood but honestly never considered other donating.
Wishing all here that are facing life threatening health issues get the break they deserve. You and your families will continue to me in my prayers to face the road ahead.
You been on my mind lately how your doing and such. If you were here in my city I would have come visited you in the hospital. I have 4 surgeries under my belt. Not liver but 30 days logged time. Sometimes a visiter can bring a smile, some hope and prayer. I have visited alot of strangers in the hospitals for surgeries. Once I left,no longer a stranger, and now a friend.
I pray all goes well. Be strong, keep the faith.
Thanks Janie if you visit the site call www.uhn.ca you ll see lot of info even if it is just for reading ......since i m kind of involve without any choice i been learning lot of things and also seen that lot of people are uneducated when it come to donating .......i tought my chance were all canada but no ...it s only ontario .......the list is probably in the thousands waiting .......the risk factor when donating 0.2 % out of 20,000......? with may be 3 days hospital
hi Ron i think ? lolllllllllwith the hot burning Nova
my 18 of march visit was onlyfor the afternoon ....i think i beat my last september record lollllllll there must have been over 26 different bottles for multiple blood test ......
if i do get the transplant than i ll probably be nearly 4 weeks in the hospital TGH and than have to stay around close by for regular weekly test for may be another 4 weeks before i can even start thinking about coming home for may be 3month of slow recovery
i would get in that Nova for a burn out even with a stranger lolllllllll
that was one of my dream project to finish mine a 71 Nova and get on the drag strip
but lot of those project will eventually be sold now that lot of things about life for me will become priority over cars
56, the Nova isn't mine. I have owned one but thats not mine. I live vicariousy thought my sons car now. Alot got sold after my surgeries. And your right...priorities change. Nor am I able to do the things I once was able to do or for the time I could do things. Yet I am very grateful despite life cards I am dealt.
But don't worry no one or or nothing can take the hotrod out of you, its always inside.
Just remember....fall down 7 times...get up 8.
I've had family use the Delta Chelsea at Bay and Gerard, The nurses residence, and something to do with Womens Hospital. All these I was assisted by TGH transplant co-ordinator. I only had a Kidney transplant, simple surgery compared to liver. I don't buy lotto tickets as I've already won the Organ for Life Lotto (actually I married her, my wife and I matched better than most siblings). Listen to the nurses and doctors they know what they are doing. Remember, rejection is common, fight through it if it happens.
Good luck
Dale

I see some great info that I had forgot about , could be useful ....I found a nice spot in new market won t be what I really need for after the surgery but I ll figure something ............unless I find someone who want a job and like to drive in Toronto lolllllllllllll as they probably will take my license away by that time
