well ive never really been a believer of engine additives and other snake oils but today I was converted. since I started driving my Tahoe I have had this slight lifter rattle when its cold, well today I had a valve hang open and the nasty clacking to go with it, of course I assumed the worst, broken rocker or collapsed valve spring. so I had used a can of this sea foam stuff to free up the first buick engine I used in the rat truck, I added a can to the oil of the Tahoe and drove it around. to my amazement the valve freed up and now it runs perfect. I am convinced that this stuff can help for stuck valves at least.
Guess I will try a can...I have a slight tick when my GMC first starts....I went to synthetic oil last oil change, but its still there, cant hurt to try it
Of the additives out there, sea foam is the only one that does what it claims. Had a fuel injector acting up, added a can to the gas, drove it maybe 100 miles, problem gone! Drove it for another 2 years and never had the problem come back.
My 17 year old grandson decided he wanted to add it to my 03 Silverado 4.8L shortbox (that he drives) He added it and it didn't make any difference But he was happy
Sea Foam make anything for a seized engine? I have a slant six that sat around for a long time in a truck, it could use a little help. If this stuff can dissolve sludge/varnish etc. might be worth a try.
as I stated I used this to free up the buick engine I used originally for my rat truck, I poured it into the cylinders and worked the flywheel until it broke free, the engine ended up smoking a bit too much but its not seized and could be rebuilt. this stuff seems to work wonders.
Thanks Fatstax, I'll have to give it a try. Do they just make the one item, or do they have a whole range of products? I have to ask, I'm not familiar with the brand at all.
i use it in everything in the spring at the first fill-up. i know it helped the motor in the boat after sitting for 2 years, i think. it, 454, was sluggish even with new fuel. about 1/2 way through the first tank of new gas it was still lacking and i put a can in. in my mind i could feel the snap coming back and it felt crisper. now i just put some in everything on the first fill-up.
like a lot of guys i am on the fence with all the additive stuff but i did put the little bottle of conditioner in like it stated to do on one of the new rear ends. can't remember if it was for the ford 9" in the chevelle or the 60 in the coronet.
how many times have we spun the gears on the little lucas thingy on the counter and wondered? lol
At my place of work we have 6 very talented Diesel mechanics and they all swear by this stuff. We have dozens of small engines and all are treated with the product.
I will gravitate to the pros who work on stuff than the internet claims i read.

Used it in my garden tractor w/ snowblower. Was having problems with water in fuel!!! Dumped a lot of G/line antifreeze in to "no avail" Used "sea foam" & ran it for 5 min blowing snow, thought it was going to "BLOW UP" backfiring & sputtering, then cleaned itself out!!! What a difference, I can park it in the storage trailer & don't have to "thaw" out the fuel line to the it started, runs better than ever!! Haven't tried it it in the crankcase but sure works as a stabilizer & g/line antifreeze, got all the water out of the fuel system. Going to try it in crankcase!!!!

I have a lot noise first start in my dakota ,sounds like lifters but I talked to several guys that told me its a common thing with a 4.7 v8 ,piston slap. I might try it there but I don't think I would experiment in a high dollar engine like in my coupe.....just sayin..

someone told me about piston slap as well but it wouldnt give you a dead miss so i had to think the valve was hanging open.
Check out "Bob is the Oil Guy" Oil 101. Excellent site lotsa good info.
We had a 235 with crusty cylinder walls. Filled cylinders with Sea Foam, left it over night. Next day wiped cylinders clean and fired engine. It ran well and no smoke. Sea Foam is my first choice for engines that have sat for extended periods.

A lot of excellent Internet claims by gear heads. The poll above compliments the Internet claims including my own.
Jay Leno also makes a lot if Internet claims and for someone who owns 1 single engine worth more than most peoples cars and if he backs up stuff. I'll try it.
Seafoam is the best in fuel tank mechanic out there when it comes to small engines. Rebuilt the carb on my Cub Cadet and still couldn't get the just at idle surge to go away, one tank of fresh fuel and a couple ounces of Seafoam and the old pig ran like it had never the whole time I owned it.. I use it all my small engine stuff, my neighbor is now a believer too after the annual trips to my garage with his Stihl weed trimmer , didn't have to the last two years since using the Seafoam either.. Think I gained a friend but lost a customer...
