We can thank our wonderful city government for Alex's closing of the Swap Meet. Because he is now "IN" the city of London, he needs millions of dollars worth of insurance, and to get through miles of red tape and huge permit fees at city hall. He just said "Enough"!!!
Can't blame him that's for sure
Boy that sucks..That had turned into good little swap meet..I enjoyed going to that as I always found some neat little thing to bring home..I beleive the insurance crap has turned into a monster for way to many things..I guess we live in a lawyers world these days ..seems like everything has gotten so complicated that we need to have a lawyer and insurance for everything..
That sucks. I enjoyed it and always got something. Even when the weather sucked. Still always good. Sad to see it stop. I think for London area, the only swap meet I can think of that is decent is Bothwell??? Unless there is another one I do not know about.???
There are a lot of small municipalities joining a movement to limit who can be sued in different cases. The big problem seems to be that if there is a suit for something and it is ruled that the township is even partially at fault even just 1%,say just for allowing the event. Then the lawyers go for the deepest pockets. What they are trying to do is make the province pass some kind of law saying that they won't have to pay if there are multiple parties found at fault.Only the most responcible would be sued.Maybe you should make sure your area is part of this. One of many good growing and successful events killed off by London's narrow thinking........thanks again Alex's for all those great years of getting up early twice a year to go shopping for swap meet gold.......it will be missed.
Typical of most municipalities today. It seems most automotive events are looked down upon. I know the only thing that brings excitement to the Brantford municipal government is hockey tournament. Nothing else seems worthy.
London is a difficult place to live if your household income is under 50k. In the past 20yrs London has transformed into a have and have not city and education system. If your interests don't align with that of city council you're SOL. They're totally out of control.
sorry to hear the news , Alex was saying to me this may happen , done his first swap meet and kept going back , going to miss that one , had flyer given to me at Paris on Fleetwood in June , said they were looking for venders and had some at past shows , any one there last year remember if there was many used parts venders , dent
