for the last few days i have had some instances where being in a hurry and being impatient could have cost me more than i would like.  i am appreciating the value of not being in a rush.  yesterday i got behind an old guy who was driving 45 in a 60, i could have blown past him but instead i decided not to as i was on company time and i am paid by the hour.  well of course there was a cop just over the crest of the hill, waiting for speeders no doubt.  last summer me and ed and the boys went to arm drop and we got nailed speeding but we beat the fines.  this i feel is a message to slow down a bit.  although life is short, it can get alot shorter if you take risks with no benefit to yourself.

I always get a chuckle out of the folks that feel the need to cut you off, race ahead, to a red light.

I need to get myself a checkered flag to wave for them....lol

I wrote off a company van last winter, mainly because of the ice and wind, but I think it was partly too because I was behind schedule and was probably in a bit of a hurry.....This year, I have slowed it down a lot and look way ahead to see whats going on. Much easier on the nerves too. I reset my GPS every week. It records my fastest speed. Rarely gets over 90kph these days. Better safe than sorry.

I agree    if we could get all these old people off the roads  (driving 90km)   we could make some time up and get there much faster     Speed limit was 60 mph in the 60-70's and everyone drove 70 mph    no one died

well I sure as **** have mellowed out while driving, I actually enjoy seeing other people get all steamed about stupid things.  driving leads to road rage don't you know?

carl I am thinking it was 70 so long ago I cant remember. if not I dont recall driving under 70 even 80 most of the time.might have passed 20 cars between hamilton and toronto that were driving at 60-65 on most days.I drive 110 or more when safe and I am well past 65.I agree that people driving under limit are a problem.years ago dont remember which state it was they had minimum speed signs post as well as maximum.I think we need the same here and enforced.427 in your new avitar?

The speed limit is 70mph on most highways in the US and 60mph in this country. I don't quite grasp the logic behind this; as the population is denser in the US, therefore a higher vehicle concentration. I'm also skeptical on the difference of the damage in a collision between 60 or 70mph, the vehicle will be a write-off either way.

I'm not one to be in a hurry, I just cruise at a comfortable speed, follow the flow of traffic.

We have areas around here, that are 2 lanes wide with a 30 foot wide boulevard divider, 50 feet of grass on either side, no curves, no trees, no schools, you can see clear ahead for a mile and 200 feet wide, and they have posted speed limits of 50kph. It defies all logic, I've yet to see anyone do under 70kph.

Driving has a lot to do with logic, courteousness and awareness.

Seems like somebody is not getting the message!

I know its gets very touchy

e.g.   drive to Goderich  12 miles

1st car going 82 km per hour  second car  going 82 km 3rd car going 80 Km  4th car going 78km  5th car going 77 km  6th car  and so on

no one has enough power to pass

If you flew overhead you would see 9-13 cars bumper to bumper

and no one ahead of them for a mile and no one behind for a mile....   its sick and NOT safe

And the 401 was 2 lanes from Windsor to the the Quebec border with a ditch median.Used to drive from Breslau (G&A Masonary) to Aylmer and be in the bank in town in less than 60 mins. Those were the days smile smile

I do the Belleville Toronto run every week. Traffic never seems to be moving under 115 and by the time I hit Oshawa it is up to 125. The exception is the little old lady who is passing everyone to get to her canasta game. I drive to Ohio, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania frequently and although they have 10 times the population, there seems to be 1/10th the traffic on the hiway. Have to admit those 65-70 MPH speed limits are nice. Although even with the 60 MPH speed limit in Ontario, 70 (120KMH) seems to be the accepted norm. I live on a county road where the speed limit is 50 KMH (would like to see it raised to 60) but when the OPP set up radar in front of my place, they set the nab point for 75. Seems everybody accepts that the speed limits should be higher. Another thing, does anyone else find it weird that the law punishes you equally for going 25 over in a 50 zone (50%) as they do for 25 over in a 100 zone (25%)?

I think a big part of the problem is not the speed but the differential in speed, one doing 80 and the other doing 120 creates a dangerous situation, think nascar doing 195 in a pack and somebody backs off to fast,is a recipe for a crash. Then again there is a lot of flat out idiots on the road that think there fast and furious, just sayin..

I just noticed I wrote that I drive 110.for you younger people if your confused with our speeds of 60-70 we old schoolers talk in pre metric when we say that.my 110 comment should have stated kph.I had to throw that in did not want you thinking us old farts were out there impeding the flow of traffic.Joe thanks for confirming my thoughts on speed limit.and Carl I thought you had a rare car there was not sure if they had 427 in that year seen real sleeper chev biscayne 2 door post 67-8 back in early 70s only marking was side marker light id I think it was amber where 350 and 6 were clear.big dual pipes from back would have been another giveaway.one other thing back in the day if we came up on a sunday driver in left lane.there was not the amount of traffic we have today.Qew and 401 were 2 lane highways.you usually could move to inside and pass pretty safely.today everyone is bumper to bumper 3 and 6 lanes wide if 1 lanes slows 6-7 back the difference in speed creates a s::t storm of people driving behind riding each others bumpers no time or place to avoid smashing into the car in front of them.part that pisses me off is the car that was the cause by not keeping speed up drives on oblivious to what happened behind them.if they cant handle the traffic speeds or volume they should take a bus or walk. lane hoppers are another problem change lanes 8 times end up being 1 car ahead of where they started cutting people off who have to slow down quickly causing another possible accident.back in the day you would have 1 idiot today?
