We've got robins here. Mind you, they're wearing toques but they're here.
If you have Robins, then we know it's coming. Our big indicator is the Trumpeter Swan.Big area @ the old Air Base N E of town where they land and feed.

It is defiantly a different prospective in the north for sure.
Timmins has very similar winters to us.
Pretty desolate driving up there especially in winter.

Grew up near wasaga ,long time ago, not timmins , but it was a nasty walk to school,in a storm going home with rubber boots ,me and the two girls from from the farm up the road did the slide on the back of gord the mailmans car, no **** swear on my mothers grave ,he had a VW and lost his arm in a baler and had to replace the steering wheel every year because of the hook,,....jim
Jim, i can believe that about the one arm.
Had a trucker here years ago with one arm, he could roll a smoke with one hand while steering with his knee.
Presently we have a tow truck operator with one arm who does a lot of pickups with a roll off deck truck, amazing to watch, he can do more, and faster than guys with both arms.
Temps have been running in the plus's the past two days, but that also brought another 6 inches of snow!
Thankfully today we are to miss the 10-15 of snow you guys in the south are forecasted to get.
These mild temps are bringing the deer out , got to watch when driving.
Tommorrow our temps go back down again to the -18c range for lows.
Dissapointing for sure!! Radio reports this morning stated parts of S. Ontario could get up to 25cm's.
No snow here, but a chill factor of -30c , however did hear this morning of one robin sighting in the area.
Old trapper friend this morning told me of finding two dead deer, and while travelling his trapline yestrday came across one doe that was struggling in the deep snow, so he stopped and waited to let her recover, but after a few minutes she just quit and fell down, He went to check on her and she was dead.
The crust now on top of the deep snow is wearing these deer down.
This black $hit hawk (Grackel) scared everything from the feeder this morning. They carry the crap from the young in the nests and drop it on my cars, driveway, front windows etc (3 foot smear) .Crow decoys, Owl and Falcon decoys and FIREWORKS keep them out of my spruce trees.
that too Hemi, lol, it comes out when they do their courtship on the lawn and .177 cal. darts!
I forgot about the darts !! Those were cool. I also remember the .22's that had bird shot in them. I don't even know if you can still buy this stuff with all the regulations.
We have Crows, Robins, Skunks, Raccoons and Squirrels, but I find them to be unreliable indicators. I think I'm going to use the thousands of cubic yards of snow that's still in my yard as my indicator - when it's all gone in a month or so.... it's spring!!!!
