Ok heres the plan road trip to gananoque june july, considering hauling the trillum with the coupe,,but I have to fab a hitch, not a problem, but to do that there is no way but to relocate the fuel tank,,so fuel cell in the trunk? Steel or plastic{hate plastic}has to be a bottom sump with a inline elektrik pump ,plus optima batt in the trunk,, sooo that all said, side mirrors ,the trillium is wider than the coupe,,hate the idea of anything like westcoast mirrors,, or I could pull it with the dakota BORING,,
Well without lying under your car to look the situation over and formulate a good plan..But from my desk top, I would consider planning and installing a removable hitch that could be removed with a few well placed bolts.. So I could either install it or remove it with no more than an hrs work ..You will enjoy the trip, side trips, cruising and the whole experience if you haul that little trailer with your most favorite summer ride..
The mirrors would not bother me one bit as they would be removable as soon as you uncouple the trailer at it's overnight stop..there are a variety of different types of trailer mirrors that could be modified to to fit with easy removal ..I have seen many that just use a bungy cord style to attach..On the road I would be much more concerned that I can see safely for lane changes and tops, than I would be concerned about the being seen cool factor...you will have lots of time for that when she is uncoupled and your sitting around in yer rust free shorts soaking up a root-beer after the trip.. and helping Val warm up the Bar-B..
Thanks for the opinion chuc,, the fuel tank is not just an option its also a safety consideration it,s a stock bomb, not just the hitch issue,,,need some options for mirrors
i use those vintage trailer mirrors that clamp to your front fenders. think you can see them on my 55 gmc in the bucket thread. i know your car is a lot smaller them my truck but i have a receiver hidden behind my plate and my plate is on a hinge. you also go with one of them thin receivers 1/2 in by 2 in. (had one on the back of my saturn wagon) but then i'm not sure of that load rating

You are SOL on the mirrors !! I was going to restore a Boler a few years back, and what prevented me was that there was no way of putting mirrors on my car without having them stick out 16 inches. I built a teardrop trailer which was 52" wide, and even at that narrow width I couldn't see the rear corners of the trailer. I now tow a popup trailer which is no problem.

Could be find a popup trailer to borrow for a couple months ?? just add a hitch and go just wondering
Here is Sacotu's truck with the clamp on mirrors. Years ago, I modified a set of those so I could bolt them onto the external hinges of my 51 Ford F1.....There were a couple of 5/16 holes tapped into the hinge for some reason. I bolted them onto that with rubber on the other arms against the paint. Does your rod have external hinges?

The problem with street rods, is that the body is so narrow at the doors. Mounting a mirror in this location would out of the question. The only option would be a fender mounted mirror, but would look pretty Goofy going down the road. Like DaveM mentioned, a camera system would work, but I'm not sure if that would be legal if you were ever stopped.
you calling my truck goofy? i think i remember seeing a whole bunch of rods with fender mounted mirrors at syracuse last year. as fast as the camper is off the truck so are the mirrors. those vintage mirrors are still pretty common. another option is those mirror extenders that clip on to your existing mirror. only thing is i don't see any mirror on the car in your avatar.

I am as dumb as a bag of old needles..but even I could fab a couple mirrors with a little inginuity and some pieces of wood to get it close then cut and fab up a metal or PVC pipe to mount a mirror on..Hell I thought there was no such word as can't ,won't in a hot-rodders vocabulary.. Maybe get fatstax to show you how to do that.. I am not seeing this as a difficult project..
Nice pix chuck if i was to keep my original tank i would have to add another x member in front of the tank but still have no room for frame mounts on either side of the tank,,I think my only option is to relocate,,and i feel it is a safer thing to do..as far as the mirrors go maybe the fender mounts might work..
Here is a dumb thought, would it be possible to put mirrors at each end of some kind of padded body coloured pole that could be fastened some how to the base of the windshield where it meets the cowel. Maybe it could be chrome like a vaccuum tube or some other teliscoping rod for when you want to store it.It could be as long as you want and you could use whatever size mirrors you want. Ed

he he,, Ed that is such a hairbrained idea ,,If I had fatstax truck I would jump on it..

Anything can be done, but I didn't want mirrors sticking out that far away from the doors. It would have looked hideous !!

Your truck cab is a lot wider than the width of my car, so it looks OK. Being a truck helps too.

Sort of like the stupid bullwinkle mirrors on late model Rams
Is it safe to have the gas tank and battery in an enclosed area, like the trunk?
ordinary batteries emit hydrogen while charging, so the gas can build up in a trunk, as for a battery and a gas tank in the same space, ive seen it lots of times, no danger I can think of since a gas tank should be sealed, and secure as well as a battery. I have a sealed type battery in the trunk of my 51 buick, so no emissions to worry about
