My daughters stupid boyfriend royally "F'd" up her power door locks in her 2004 Montana. I am trying to figure it out. The switches are both toast, so I am trying to bypass it to unlock the tailgate. I find there is no power going to the switches. Checked the fuses and all are good. I was wondering if the door lock switches work by supplying a ground to the lock actuators?. Each switch has a ground, but no power.
2004 has a body control module, BCM. The outputs for the locks would come from it, not directly from the switches.
The switches supply a ground signal to the BCM. The BCM applies power and ground to the actuators.
Both the power and the ground wires will need to be jumped at the BCM behind the glove box to "bypass" the switches not working.
If you are missing the ground connection in the door switch circuit, there will be no signal for the BCM to see..
Installing an alarm system? Auto start?
No...they were having trouble with the power window motors....By the time he got it apart, he had trashed the window switches, door switches etc. Guy cant be careful with anything, you know the type. Now, nothing works.
So, you are saying, I cannot just jump the switch to make this BCM work? There is a guy down the road with a couple of these vans he is junking....Of course, right now there is 5ft of snow around them. I dont want to be going and buying new switches when it may not work anyways....Probably will wait for the friggin snow to melt
Harry..I also have an 03 Montanna here that I will scrapping when the yard dries up in Aug or sept..But if you need anything off it all the windows and switches are or were working just fine and your welcome to pluck it of anything you need...
Do you think he damaged the switches or are you sure of that.. If your sure it's the circuit board and electronics right at the switches..I could probably pull this complete set of switches out of the door and possibly get them to UAP in town and they could get them to you..Are you part of the Ideal supply chain of Napa..The store in town here is part of Ideal-Supply.That might be cheapest or I could mail them in a little box if you think that would help you..What ever you need Harry I am here to help..just snap the whip ...Now that fatstax and Glen are best -new-friends.. I have no friends left so I am looking for a new best friend..

I'd have to see the specific diagram for that vehicle. Sometimes they use multiple contacts / inputs to the BCM. So jumping one set of contacts may not do the trick.
Or if he has disturbed the ground wiring of that circuit it still won't see it. You say you have ground at both switches though.
I'll see if I can dig up a wiring diagram to get you some wire colours.

You should have a light blue, white, and black wires on the switch. The white wire is the unlock trigger. Touch it or jump it to ground. Light blue is for lock.
The BCM also looks for the park neutral input for lock operation.

On each door switch there are 2 blacks, both going to ground, 2 whites (one is for the lighted button, I think) and one blue
I tried putting the blue and white to the grounded wire on the switch connector, but nothing.
Funny thing is, the doors are all unlocked but the tailgate is locked. Wonder if that confuses the BCM? If I could just get the damn tailgate open, she could manually lock the damn thing. Too much crap on cars these days.
I think the Guys on Mythbusters had this same issue, and they ended up using some C4. Worked like a charm.
Those guys have access to everything. Where's a normal guy suppose to get C4.
I say properly mount that fuse box with a few Drywall screws, and you're go to go, just make sure you put a couple in the middle, so it doesn't bubble up.
Well Harry I got the switches, power window motors and regulators and glove box..But right now I am on the way to the hospital to get some stitches got my danged thumb in the road and sliced it open ,can't seem to get the bleeding stopped ...So I will get them shipped to-morrow.. Via Napa..
Damn Chuck, I didnt mean for you to get hurt doing this. Looks like you have the same 1st aid kit I have.....lol
Thanks bud....I told the day run driver to mention to the St Marys guy to watch for it....hopefully he did. Write, Harry in Hanover or something like that.....if you can write with that injured paw
Back home..3 Stitches @ $100.00 each plus travel time ..invoice will be in skin...I will get in some kind of box or something and get them into town to-morrow ...Harry in Hanover right..
pull up the passenger door sill plate, there is a harness there under the carpet. open up the taped harness, there is white and light blue wires that splice into one. they are common to corrode at the factory splices. 'ford green'

If it's you typical Montana, pulling up the sill plate will reveal the road !!
Yes I have repaired several of the Ventura, Olds Sillhouette, Montana,..Any of the Gm Mini vans with the exact same location for several electrical gremlims..Some of the carpet rot caused by, leaky heater core and plugged a/c drains there is a fat bundle of wires right there ...

Chuk, you didn't pay for stitches out of pocket did you? 'Cause "Crazy Glue" is somewhere between $6and $8 and works amazing. The hard part about going to the hospital for treatment is the excessive wait times - who has hours to sit around in a waiting room full of sick people these days?

They are on the way , I dropped them in to Local Napa Store at Noon and he said they would make it happen..So If you get the regular delivery they should be there next week..If you get the special over night delivery You might get them this week... anyway they are on-route...good luck and do check that wiring under the passenger side foot-well area for corroded wiring..I thought you were pretty sure this happened as a result of your son-in-law working on the doors for some reason..but if that problem happened before he worked on it then I would bet you will find a wiring issue under the carpet on the passenger side footwell..
Fordy ..
You are right..I should have used crazy glue..over 2 hrs...What pizzes me off is sitting there watching the nurses and Dr sit at the desk and gab about yesterdays lunch and Mable's nail polish and why she won't get off the table ..No wonder our health care costs are so fking hi..They are a bunch of lazy slow moving azholes It took about 5 min to wash it out and run 3 stitches in it..I had to get looked at by 4 different health care workers for a little freekin cut..wish I could have four techs working on your car when it comes into the shop and just bill it out all my customers like our Liberal government does...
And I am sitting in the waiting area with this older dude sitting in his jamies (a patient) yaking about the nice day Then a nurse comes along and asks him if he knows he in an isolation room with his respitory problem and he is not supposed to leave his room..and here he is breathing all over me..They had to escort him back to his room as he said he didn't like his room and would not go back..I probably got Hemi43's disease.... from that old dude breathing his germs all over me..
I've been going over a bunch of old posts on both here and the HAMB and a common problem occurs. Hundreds, if not thousands of people write in outlining a problem they have with their vehicle. Sometimes dozens of responses are made giving credible solutions and the offering of parts to rectify said problem. These conversations could go on for days, weeks or months. The problem may be fixed but the story is never concluded. I was just reading a post on the HAMB where the person had a modified 440 Dodge that would not rev over 3500 when in fact it went to 6000 before. Don, being the guru of Chrysler wedges responded along with other knowledgeable folk suggesting various fixes. This was a year ago and that person never posted again whether the problem was resolved. In April, you were cursing your daughter's boyfriend because he screwed up the power windows. There were replies and Chuck even sent you a wiring harness after enduring considerable pain. I think it is only common sense to finish the story and let those who responded if and how the problem was fixed and express thanks in particular to chuck for giving both body and parts to the solution. My point to all is if you ask for help and the problem gets fixed or not, let those who went out of their way to assist you, what the final outcome is.
Sorry Warren...I did let Chuck know how I made out by PM
I ended up getting the power windows fixed with Chucks parts.....The new switches did nothing for the door locks....might be the BCM module screwed up. She is happy to have the windows fixed and will lock the doors manually, just like the good old days.....lol

you are right Warren I think some with a Question do not get an answer for that very reason.it would help others with a similar problem. people with the answer or suggestion are reluctant to waste their time answering.
