Well, a new to me truck. I drove an '07 GMC Sierra 2500HD with the 6.6L Duramax and Allison trans and really liked it. It was comfortable and had tons of power. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with these trucks (good & bad). I need a crew cab so the family can fit, and need the towing capability to pull a travel trailer and eventually an enclosed car trailer.
All i'm aware of with those trucks is they are pretty BIG $$$$$$$$$$$$ to repair.
Son had one in his shop with problems with the one head leaking,--- the "flat Rate" just to change the head gaskets is 30 HOURS!!
Just saying, lots probably go lots of miles , but costly to repair.
I've heard from others that the head gaskets on the duramax are a pig to do. Hey John, I liked the look of that '08 dually at the Ford dealer but I'm not sure I'd make it up the hill to my house in the dead of winter with it only being a 2x4 :)
If I remember , the '09 and newer had the 5 speed trans . I'm always asking guys about their trucks when they come in to our RV dealership .....I can't think of one who complained about his Duramax with the Allison trans . Most issues seem to be with the Ford guys , particularly the older 6.0 and 6.4 . You can always buy extended drivetrain warranty if you are unsure . T

Heard that the Ford Power Stroke 6.0 liter have been having lots of problems. If you need to re & re the engine, you need to remove the cab. I've had a 06 Dodge/cummins 5.9, and it's been a great truck.

X2 head gaskets and injectors. Otherwise a great truck if you don't run into issues. If buying through a dealer get an extended warrant that covers engine mishap if available. If buying from a private owner get it checked out by someone who knows about what to look for.
GM trucks come with a 5yr/ 160k powertrain warranty which is bigger (in the km's) than Ford and Chrysler . So if you find a good used one it could still have powertrain warranty left .
The 6.0L and 6.4L Fords keep one mechanic going full time (lift cabs to get at engines
The Duramax's are indeed expensive
The Cunnings are better altough a motor home pusher and two hopped up Cummins were in this week for head gaskets
4 men never get caught up
Best customer report is a 2007 GM dually with 600,000 miles always pulling 30ft cattle tri axle loaded Engine never touched "always gets a fuel filter with every oil change
and a 2010 Dodge dually with 700,000 km and engine never apart..
When you ask about trucks on a social forum as this you will get many opinions
My advice never run a Diesel w/o warranty and stay away from Ford 6.0 6.4 and 6.7 run away from them
Had a 2001 4x4 rusty gm in today getting a used 6000.00 engine unbelievable
