from that hot rod bug I'm likely to catch if I hang around here to long .
see I'm one of those easily distracted by new potential projects types ....
-and there's no good rot free front wheel drive turbo dodges left to be had - at least not at the price I'd be willing to pay for one
(moveing past the silence lol) ,, it's different when ya actually know what your doing with one - you NEVER have to look at a set of 5.0 mustang tail lights when leaveing a stoplight ...
ya , I DID say never ...
I was into the muscle car ( A-B body mopar)thing before the TD's but being able to keep up AND get 46 mpg (imperial gallons) spoke volumes when "the ride" is also the day to day driver
which kinda brings me around to the way of thinkin that a turbo 4 banger in something like a closed cab 29 dodge or ford pick up would be a sweet ride that would seem to probably fit together like it was ment to - and probably ride really well too.
'specially considering they are sized right for it - and REAL hot rods have 4 cylinders - right ?
Welcome DJD, 4 cylinders with a turbo fit just fine under the hood of a 47 Mercury pickup.
Turbo spool up and blow off valve dump sound pretty damn cool.

HI D J D Two years ago at the " Race The runway " ( flying mile ) in Smiths falls , I witnessed a NEON R/T ( it had to have been worked on !! ) and it blew the doors off several really fast cars . There were Zo-6's and Vipers there . The NEON was faster !! -- fleet 51

I happen to have a turbo dodge of that lineage in my "stable" so to speak. its an 87 turbo lazer, manual trans. want more?
87 lazer ? does it look like a daytona or tallon ?
if it looks like a daytona is the underside rotted ? and if not - does it need a new home ?
this is what I need to find a replacement shell for - TD parts I have way to many of
I've also got an unstarted 66 coronet 500 project and an original toronto area 79 f150 that still has solid floors and not much rust that's sat here waitin for love since '91

looks like a Daytona, I don't think its rotted out at all, it has sat for a few years or more like ten but its far from being beyond saving. I will get you more info after the weekend.
well thats being a hypocrite or is it the pot calling the kettle black. when you persuaded me to pose for that pic you promised it would be for your eyes only. darn, tricked again.

Ya Shag...... sorry about that, pics just to good not to share. but in my defence I didn't post the "nudies" of ya.
So if you want a 4 cyl, they can be cool too! here is my daughter's roadster, runs a 153 cube Chevy 4 cyl, a 700 r tranny and gets a ton of miles to the gallon. All of them with her smiling!

Back a few years ago at Barrie in the car corral, there was a Model A pickup , black primer with an iron duke engine with two carbs and headers.
It drew a lot of interest, but not sure if it sold.
Here's a quiz; The 3 vehicles in the picture above all have historic plates. Which one is breaking the law?
Likely all 3, because there are driving limitations that go with these plates too! I'll bet that even the stock, equipment compliant ones have probably been taken to work the odd time on a nice day or to the store for an occasional bag of milk or maybe even a quick shot up the road to restock the beer fridge.

watch what you type on here, hemi is relaying his notes to his ministry contacts. tin foil hats on peeps! I am debating his connections though, I snuck past 3 OPPs today with my flea market trailer and they didn't seem to notice me. maybe it was that stealth bomber paint I used that I bought off ebay.
My wife's 2.0l turbo 4 banger makes over 300 ft lbs of torque at the wheels. Over 2.5hp per cubic inch. Car weighs under 3000lbs. It will make you go HMMMMM!
And as a side, it gets 43 mpg.

Back in the gas crunch early 70's my buddy put a pinto 4 banger in his Model A coupe. With that big flat glass and the sunvisor scoop'n up tons of air that thing would barely do the speed limit. He got fed up with it and pulled it out after one summer. About the same time I built a deuce roadster with a V6 in it. Couldn't stand to drive it 'cause it sounded like a sewing machine although it did get good mileage and I drove around the St. Paul fairgrounds all day long with no heating problems. I think a modified 4 in a little track roadster with a well chopped windshield would be cool but anything tall is not going to be fun. Just my opinion

That's because you've only messed around with the old junk. I know older engines are cool and all, but let's face it, they were garbage engines compared to today's engine technology. A fast street car used to be something that would run 14 seconds, now you can buy cars that will run 12's and faster right out of the box with A/C on. Some of you Guys need to go out and test drive a turbo 4 banger. You'll change your mind.
Years ago I owned a Dodge Omni GLHS with a Turbocharged 2.2 and a 5 speed. The thing was a rocket. I won 95% of the street races I was in back in the day with it. It made me a fair bit of money over the years that I raced it. I met a lot of angry Camaro, Trans Am and 5.0 Mustang owners back in the day that couldn't believe they got their doors blown off by a 4 door econo box, lol.

I street raced an Omni GLHS, with my 340, 4 speed Duster. It was a stock engine at the time, and it ran a respectable 13.2 quarter mile.
I pulled away from the 4 banger, but I mean, I certainly didn't blow it's doors off. I pulled away from 383 Chally's in just about the same fashion.
I've got old school guys telling me that my '09 Hemi, is not any stronger then a '70's 426 Hemi.
Well my 5.7L Hemi is only 347ci (80ci less), and side by side, stock.
A '70 Hemi Cuda will run a 1/4 mile in 13.1 sec at 3,620lbs.
A '09 Chrysler 300, with a 6.1 (372ci) Hemi, will run the 1/4 mile in 13.2 sec, and weighs 4212lbs.
To recap, that's 600lbs more, and 54ci less.
No doubt in my mind today's engines are far superior. But they just don't have that nostalgic look though.

someone just had to say the word areostar ..... I lost a perfectly good 86 turbo z to some dummy with an areostar
he tryed to turn left across my lane as I was comeing the opposite way ...
he didn't make it - not even close
small satisfaction was watching approximately 13K in body repair to that 3 year old van rot to nothing in only a few short years - I knocked the passenger side of it in about 2-3 feet , both doors , rocker and floor
- good hit if I do say so , lucky for him my car had no front rebar under it's nose
... and I got 46 hun for an 11 hundred dollar car lol - which paid for 2 really nice shelby z's
yeah , turbo dodges are addictive - I've had a few and parted down many many more
anyway this site seems interesting - I think I'll hang out awhile and see if any interesting projects pop up
If you want to build a turbo dodge hot rod using the older 2.2/2.5, then keep an eye out for early dakotas with the 2.5L four banger in them. They have a unique block that takes a standard small block transmission and has side engine mounts. The trucks came with 5 speeds or 904 transmissions in them.
I am helping my friend clean out his old machine shop and there is a bunch of 2.2/2.5l stuff in there that we probably will be scrapping.
