Thinking About Getting Wire Wheels
Permalink

I'm toying with the idea of improving the looks of my '01 Olds Aurora . I've always liked the looks of wire wheels on virtually any car I've seen .

I've noticed that there are chrome steel and stainless steel versions . Someone mentioned that used wires aren't far off the price of new ones . I did see a set of chrome wires on line at about $1600 for 4 .

Any comments , suggestions ? I've never had wires in the past ,

You have way too much idle time, cleaning them is full time job.

540 stainless steel spokes 4 layer chrome rim.

I have had these rims for 3 years and have never been on my knees to clean them.

Spray with cleaner rinse off with pressure and force air dry leaf blower.

Mine are true knock offs but you can buy bolt on also.

I bought Dayton wire wheels from Ohio.

Here is a link. http://www.daytonwirewheels.com/

You can buy cheeper brands, lurk on a lowrider site to get their thoughts.

Thanks Rebel , like the looks of that '65 Starfire on the Dayton site .

No , I don't have much extra time on my hands , work full time and care for an ailing wife .....but the good news is I work ( literally ) 4 minutes from home and the car is always garaged ....minimum of dirt and grime . The wires are on the top of my list but #2 is the tried and true look of the Cragar mags .

I had a set of True-spoke knock offs

They were easy to keep clean

Spray with cleaner  power wash off

I've had several sets of vintques wires,a couple sets of true spokes, one set on my bb chevlle in the eighties that I never took it easy on and now I'm gathering parts for my new build that include a set of wires. I heard many people say not to buy but I never had any trouble at all. Now with ceramic pads there is no brake dustwink
