Keeping Tonneau Cover Black
Permalink

I just changed the soft top on the tonneau cover on my truck after the branches turned it into a shish kebob during the winter.

Has anyone found a cleaner that can help keep it looking good?

The sun really beats the snot out of the vinyl.

The UV rays have probably chewed it up. Time for a new one, or paint it with vinyl die.

I just saw something yesterday about the same thing and they tested Maguires, and it kept the black for , i believe 45 days. There were a couple of others that they tested that lasted about 75 days but i can,t remember the names. I,m old you know. Names are not my strong point. I do remember they priced out in the $20.00 range, which isn,t bad.

I just changed the tarp on the cover. That's why I want to try and keep it black.

Then again, another spear should drop by the end of summer again....

If that happens, I'm going to a hard top tonneau.

Thanks. 75 days between cleanings/refreshing sound good.

Now, I just need to figure out which product it is.

Just watched it.

The products are for plastic trim but vinyl is plastic, right?

The Mothers and Maguires were the worst which is surprising.

Just rub some grease on it . May not keep it black but people will only lean on your truck once.

For cleaning it, Spray Nine, for protecting it, I'd go to a Marina and use what they have.

Let someone lean on a stainless top in the hot sun. They'd only do that once!

Should be the same as convertible top cleaner/treatment.

If you go to eshine.ca and look around they have a good assortment of stuff. I buy most of my detailing stuff from there. Good prices and fast shipping.

I've used Meguiars "Rubber and Vinyl" cleaner and conditioner for years, it's their commercial line so don't look for it at Canadian Tire but any good parts store can get it for you.

Many boat manufacturers recommend a product: "303 Aerospace Protectant". I use it on my boat vinyl, and with 10 years
of exposure to the elements, it still looks like new. Most marine supply stores have it. It goes a very long way, so a bottle should do you for several seasons. Just wipe on / off every month or so.

 Thanks Oscar.

I'll check out the marina next time I go fishing.

Memory is not what it used to be but I think I found 303 at Wallymart. Used it on my Donzi and yes it really does work well, upholstery and the fiberglass itself . Never tried it on tires but I just may do that.

I am using UAP's version of vinyl top and fabric cleaner and protectant on my convertible top, and will be also on my tonneau cover.

The convertible top looks like brand new for up to about 3 weeks before you need to spray and wipe another coat

never been so impressed with a product before in my 40+ years of workin on cars

One bottle is the cleaner, the other is the protectant - about $34 and worth every single dime in humble opinion
