Safety aside, IMO a rat rod is a vehicle made from different pieces where fit and finish is not important and just the basic components needed to make it a working car.
A hot rod will have some comforts like wipers, stereo and will be built with more attention to detail.

I have two friends with this kind of build. One is insulted when others call his build a rat rod. The second calls his a rat rod. Would you take offence to others opinions to your build?

I built my car to suit my taste. If I wanted to please the masses I would have built a 32 Ford with a Chev 350.

Now I know I'm not the masses, I like your hot rod better than I would a '32 with a SBC!

concur Carl. didn't know you could use a left handed adjustable spanner as a door handle on a hot rod. who knew.

Hard to say......Seems to have some of the rat rod cliche's .......the spider webs and the bullet holes are missing....the street signs for floor boards may be under the carpet?

This couldn't be an easier question! It is quoted right in the ad! "This is a RAT rod!" (quote was copy and pasted directly from the ad)
My answer: Rat Rod.

Why not just post it on the HAMB, they know everything and they won't be shy about telling you.

On the HAMB it's a rat rod but has better worksmanship than most of them. The HAMB wouldn't consider it 'Traditional '

Why Fugly? I thought rods were built to the individuals taste, but evidently there are unwritten "rules". This rod is lowered,OK,open engine,OK,track style exhaust,Ok,moondisks,OK. It has personal touches but not over done in the addon stuff. So far a so called traditional build.Where does it head into the fugly class. Well for me its the grill, headlight treetment. The "rules" state the grill and headlights should not be ahead of the front wheels, otherwise it looks bucktoothed to me . Rat rods came about as a screw you to the Foose and Coddington billet builds. This one seems to fit into that catigory perfictly. Ed

Any body got any unwritten "Rules". Ed

Just wait till someone gets killed in one of these cobbled up " rat rods". That will give the Ont gov. a reason to legislate us ALL off the road . That's what worries me.

totally agree on the buck tooth aspect. You can have a hundred attaboys but all it takes is one oh s..t and you can slip into the fugly zone real quick. Your right about the individual taste and someone elses individual opinion.

I see "cobbled together" dailey drivers, classic hot rods, ect  out there with obvious "buddy done it" safeties.

Cant fix stupid and they are not legislating all those guys off the road.

I think far more care is put into  builds were gonna drive ourselves and our families around in. They have to pass certification to be on the road just like yours did. If you do yours right, you have nothing to be worried about. Nobody with half a brain wants anything cobbled together on the road.hmm

I dont believe anything was cobbled as it looks to be a stock 50 ford truck frame with a small block chevy and disc brake conversion. There are lots of trucks with this simple build.

Im sure most of our cars are safe but you have to look at it thru the eyes of these non car government types. Seems to me that they are looking for any excuse to get modified vehicles off the road.If there is ever a fatale accident with a highly modified vehicle ( cobbled together in their eyes) I would expect some kind of knee jerk reaction. I just hope it never happens.

Its  fugly its not a truck its a cartoon . You can have all the right parts to make it a whatever kind of rod you like but buddy missed the boat in the execution. there is no flow to it at all and that year pickup cab just looks stupid stuck back on the frame as far as it is. Its a hard style to pull off and make it look right . This one fell short unless he was trying for modern fugly. Then its right on
