I Got bad gas....

Filled up in the states during my trip with regular gas. Motor burped and farted for about 400 Ks then I got filled with hi test and it's back to normal. On the way home I was using hi test and accidentally put in regular again. Ran like crap until I filled it with premium again. I can run regular in Canada with no problem. Both had 87 octane. Any thoughts on what the issue was.??

Maybe ethanol content.???

Ethanol fuel will loosen up any rust in the gas tank.
It will boil quicker than real gas. Vapour lock.
It will eat your rubber fuel lines.

This used to be a problem years ago . I haven't heard anyone mention it for years. One time in the 80's had to dump the tank at the side of the road on the bike . Wouldn't  even run on whatever it was.

May be the ethanol....I know when I used to go to the US more (mid 90s), there were 2 grades of gas, one was about 10 cents cheaper, same octane. . Gas was about a buck/gallon then. The Shell, Texaco, Mobil etc were the more expensive ones. Citgo and a few others were cheaper. I always got better mileage and truck ran better with the expensive gas.
What brand did you buy?

After I got back from Syracuse Nats last year I run into some off the local guys who went down. Same story, cars stalling and dying, bad fuel. Bought at a big gas station (so he said). Bought some gas additive and some premium and slowly got better till the bad stuff was out.

Can't remember which gas it was. I'm terrible for thinking I have enough gas to make it to the next town and then panicking when the low fuel light comes on and I scramble to get gas where ever I can find it.
