Al Maynard owned and drove the record holding (E?) gas '57 Chevrolet sponsored by Standard Auto Supply out of Detroit back in the 60's. He beat Harry Luzader's deuce coupe for the win that day at Indy and owned a bunch of gorgeous hot Rods and muscle cars over the years as well as wheeling and dealing just about anything Hi performance for a gm car. Al was the go to guy for anything like that. He died of cancer some time ago and his wife has put everything up for sale, I heard brand new 9" Ford ring and pinion sets were going for $7.00. He had some really rare stuff and I'll bet some guys got some great deals.

You gotta remember, you Guys that remember this stuff have 10-15 years on me. My drag racing memories include Joe Amato, Eddie Hill, Daryl Alderman Bob Glidden etc... I wasn't even born yet when drag racing was in it's heyday.

You are so right Dan. A few of us on this forum are older and do remember drag racing in the 60's. It started then and look where it is today. Each generation has made it just that much better. But as I come across some things from down memory lane, I will continue to post so you kids will know where it all started.
