I have just acquired an electric forklift with a good 48 volt motor, I will be converting a p!ss can car to electric.  I can buy a digital controller for about 600 bucks.  I will be posting updates as I acquire more stuff. another thing soon to be off my list

I'll be watching you!
What's a p!ss can car? I don't know much about electrical, but I do know those electric lifts will only coast at maybe 15km/h, and will hold charge for maybe 2-3hrs of operation.

Can't wait to see what you have planned.

Edit: I can't spell.

im thinking a Toyota tercel, light, plentiful, comes with standard steering and brakes.  ive been doing some reading and im pretty sure I can pull this off pretty cheap, will make a good around town runner.

I never claimed it was going to be a hot rod, although I could flat black it for some style

Rob, if you put a smaller snow plow on it, you could wrap it in Xmas lights,(Led's) that would look cool in the winter. Lol (Just teasin!!)

However one could just as easily do a hot rod. Maybe a Morris Minor 2 dr or an old Austin or Prefect or even a VW.
I have been seriously thinking of a lawn tractor sans mower for pulling a cart and such around the property and as a Pit vehicle at the drags. With a Solar panelled roof . Another real decent possibility is build something like this using a legends body. Sedan or coupe. I don't know where to buy such a body but I do know they are available and are very cool. Pre 1920s about 20% of vehicles were electric. Especially delivery trucks. Never thought of a forklift motor. Good idea.

I think you could do a track style T roadster or coupe with full hood.Lightweight and still a traditional style for the purests. Bolt on some phoney pipes and pump engine noises thru the sterio . Could be a cheep cruiser. At least MOE couldn't say didley. If you think about it ,it could be the shape of hotrodding in the future. Sombody could make a fortune selling those plastic display SBC things. Ed

It would be a cool project, but the limiting factor and cost will be the batteries. A friend of mine just converted a 1932 Ford? Pickup to electric. I could give you his info if you wanted to pick his brain. He's only in Pickering.
Not sure what hurdles and cost would be to license an electric vehicle.

I remember someone flopping an electric forklift on its side while driving like a moron.  The battery was damaged and the replacement battery was something like $6000 and was HUGE.  This was probably 20 years ago though.

This should be an interesting project.

1931 Model A pick-up.  The whole bed was full of batteries. Pretty smart guy's that know their stuff.

I can't recall the number but there was a staggering amount of wattage in this thing. And I believe they were running 200+volts.

All that extra weight of the batteries will help with traction using a bigger plow ... smile

With a solid rear axel ... it takes a lot to spin these tires ... wink

Mine is a lot rougher than this one ... but has a 9.7kw motor running on 36 or 48 volts for local driving ...

It will seat 2 comfortably ... with the use of a shoehorn to help you get in ... wink

What more Toyota speak on this hot rod forum!!! Blasphemy!  We have one guy with a Toyota engine, another with a Toyota rear diff, still another with a Toyota alternator.no

I have heard that there is one member on this forum so dedicated to the brand he has Toyota parts in his bathroom!winkwink

Well I guess if you can't beat-em, you can at least use their good parts.biggrinbiggrin

Should be a cool project Rob. Looking forward to seeing a build of this.

If you want a car with Canadian content buy a Toyota or Honda.  I hear GM ( General Mao) is assembling cars in Oshawa thought .

Did you hear that from your Dentist? Last time I checked, thousands of Canadians are employed working for feeder plants, not to mention the engine plant in St Catherines.
