Gotta cut down my tranny dip stick. I know I can buy one but I think I'm going to shorten this one. Not sure if i should just cut the end of the tube and stick or cut the tube and take the rivet out of the stick and shorten it that way. Anyone ever do this ? Any do's and donts?
use tubing cutter on tube.nice clean cut no removal from tranny.then as lightspeed said for stick 1/2 hr job
If you use a tubing cutter, it will swage the end of the tube inwards making the opening smaller and will prevent the dipstick from going in. Zip wheel would be my choice !!
Yup cut the tube, remove the rivet and shorten the stick. Just make sure to measure and remove the same length on both.
You can use a tube cutter, just do not cut all the way through with it. Once you are about 3/4 though tap the end of the tube and it should snap off. quick file work to smooth the break and you are all set.

Hmmmm good point. Think I will take the tube off to make sure no metal cuttings get where they shouldn't....
Better hurry and get it cut before Gazoo and Slim see this post . If they do, there will be a 4 page debate on how to cut a dipstick tube !!
I enjoy everyone's opinion. Helps me learn from someone else experiances.Think I read here Somewhere. If you don't share the knowledge it dies with you......good advice......
Hmmm. I've already been warned about you Slim......
Don't worry about the warning, the poster has "Posting Diarrhea", and can't help himself, he just has to post something in EVERY thread. Whether relevant or not.
He apparently needs the attention, but he is harmless.
