Car parts are sold at a swap meet this a flea market with a few car parts mixed in and the real mister haynie running the show. stax will be there raking in the dough between the sock vender and the guy selling elvis paintings. Can't miss him. Burl's and Barrie are the same thing if you want to do a search . The fleetwood show is a lot closer to you this weekend.

I don't think I ever missed a Barrie from the days it started at the old Molson place ..I never missed a spring or fall for 30 years..but the last 10 it just got  so full of to much junk, garbage and socks, t-shirts, jewellery, belts and all the left over garbage Chinese junk tools that somehow got into this country most of the quality is  even below princess auto quality..But having said that for BMW.. if you have never been before You might like it ..it is big and I am sure if you walk 20 miles you will find something to bring home..If your not in by 8:am you will be backed up in a line of traffic for an hr and have to walk about a mile to actually be inside the grounds..One nice thing about being such an old over the hill fart..I am not building anything any more so I have no reason to have to do that any more..I am so glad..bring something to eat and drink..It is impossible to get to a concession stand and drinks or water is about $5.00 a bottle and a burger is about $10.00 so be forewarned and forearmed.. If your serious about buying something bring a wagon or some sort of thing you can pull to put your stuff in..It's about 200 acres or more..

The last time I vended at Barrie I noticed the following issues. Way to big ,actually overwhelming unless you stay over for the whole 4 days.Lots of venders and less and less carparts buyers. Most of the people walking around are out for an afternoon strole that could be in a mall or park or downtown Toronto. The parts buyers seem to get most of what they want on line nowadays or at smaller swapmeets. I think another thing is people seem to be shying away from major projects and just need little things to finish a car agin easier on line. The cost of a spot is also keeping some away as it means you have to sell a lot of parts to break even. There is good as well and that would be the interaction between the vendors .I always enjoyed the atmosphere of the weekend. Older now and not really interested in the party atmosphere the was starting to creep into the weekend. My advice is go and see for yourself and decide weather this is what you enjoy. Everything changes and evolves with the times so if this is what the times and people want thats ok by me ,just not for me anymore. Ed

Yes. I was curious about Barrie because I thought it was quite the swap meet.. Looking for some bits for the 49 dodge. I know fleetwood is a big show, but does it also have a swap meet too?

I think i'll probably roll down if I can get someone at work to take  my on-call. Check it out at least, give me a picture of what its like. Just a few things i'm lookin for for the '49 plodge anyway, exhaust manifold(s)

sun visor, maybe a few pieces of chrome that are nicer than mine.. interior door panels, weatherstripping.. you never know!

Anyone who is going down, pm me and i'll pass my cell number.

As with any of the car flea markets ,they are all hit and miss . I go to mostly all the markets

in Southern On .Markets I have done well at one year I go the following year and only get

a hot dog and a coffee the next year. Barrie is a huge market  ,

my wife wore a pedometer one year and it was 17 miles to walk the whole market

You don't know what you will find at any market unless you go look!!!

There are sock and t shirt vendors at all the markets these days

I just keep walking past them unless I need some ,sure beats a trip to walmart,

I love all things old or antique so this market is right up my alley

I almost bought an old Clayton Dynamometer there last year, but it only had a 300hp rated absorption unit. They really do have everything there if you look hard enough....

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and
 boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same food every
day and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved

are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and
 blame without resentment,

If you can conquer tension

If you can relax without alcohol,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

Then You Are Probably The Family Dog!

And he would enjoy a day out with dad...biggrin biggrin So take your dog..too

So we made the 2hr treck to the Meca of car parts ,otherwise known as the Barrie Automotive Flea Market. We ,The Boy and I, had a great day .Any time spent doing fun things with family is a fun day .We talked and laughed and generally had a great trip up . Got dinged $5 for parking by someone we assumed worked there which was no problem. Got in the gate and started touring the vender rows. He had never been to this event and had only heard about it from my experences vending ten or more years ago. He was looking for stuff for his Javelin project and I was looking for a Wiper motor, some dash stuff and anything else cool for the 55. After about 4or 5 rows he asked where the car stuff was . I haden't really noticed yet but there really were rows and rows of handie crafts, bottles, rugs and any other thing you can see every day Pickering or Curtis flea markets. We arrived a t noon and there were already many many empty spaces even though everyone is suposed to stay till 3pm. Having vended there for years I can't blame them for bailing early as the crowd seemed sparse. We continued around and every time he thought we were done I said no there is a whole nother field. I could't find a thing for my 55. I did see one fiberglass fender and a 57 hood. We could not find anything for the Javelin except some manuals. The Boy ended up buying a radio for a friend and a chrome air cleaner cover ,how can you turn down $5 chrome goodies. We met up with Fatstax and TJ who said they had a good weekend. Oddly enough TJ ,from my home area, had some of the parts I needed. The Boy commented on the fact that most of the stuff for sale from the big dealers could be had on line and shipped directly to the house. There was not a lot of stuff for pre 70s cars that I could find . Lots of tool venders ,motorcycle(there was an absoutely awsome old 45Harley servicar trike) and snowmobile stuff, tires and rims up the wazoo, but nothing ,that I could find anyway, for my car. I ended up buying a universal electric whiper motor that the nice vender assured me would solve all my problems. Back in the truck we laughed at the fact that the only things we were goung home with was a whiper motor that might fit ,two old Crager mags that I got free cause the vender dibn't want to take them home and two big boxes of records that I found beside a garbage can.As a source of needed car parts Barrie was a complete bust. As a fun day out with my son and friends ,a complete success. It would be even better if the guy from Allaston with the model A project that I made an offer on actually phones me . Ed

I spoke with two close friends who went on Friday. They found one item that cost them $5 (a thirties Mopar ignition switch with key, they didn't need it but they bought it because it was cheap and spare anything is good to have). I asked about the stuff for sale and the reply was "it's mostly just junk now" (they've been attending this event forever). I then asked if they had any intention of going back (they go every year) and they replied "well, you never know what you'll find or what friends you will bump into and it is an outting/gets us out of the house.

Personally, I haven't been in years.

Went up to Burl's Creek Friday morning , Didn't find much nor did I expect too.

Found a new old stock in the box ford tri power or 2x4 canister fuel filter and

a drum drum power master cylinder for a ford 1/2 ton for a project

Also bought 2 pairs of dickies shorts for 35.00 and 3 dickies  T shirtd for 10.00

All and all it was a good day ,got to drive my 64 truck for a good run

Ran into Rob {fatacks} 3 or 4 times through out the day and had a few good

chats and laughs. Barrie is not the market it once was but unless you go and look

you will never know what you will find. And by the way the nos fuel filter more than pay's

for my day!!!

We had a great time and sold some parts! Sold a set of slots to Fatstax of course... Bought some great aluminum fin inserts for my 57 Belair for $100.00 from a guy that I offered $200.00 for last year. I told him after the cash changed hands just to remind him. Bought 3 Holley 600's for $20.00 each just to have. Two boxes of vintage Hotrod magazines that included a 1968 Honest Charleys catalog in mint condition as well as some press release photos from the 1964 Winternationals. All for $10.00. Took a pile of trim from a 57 Merc,63 1/2 Galaxie,64 Galaxie and 60 Caddy, all 2 door hardtop stuff and brought almost all of it back home.Brought home my 4 camel hump heads as well. There were great parts there if you looked for them hard enough.... Oh yeah...there was a complete junk Javelin in the car corral for best offer for the guy looking for Javelin parts.

One of 3 vendors with a set of SBC Heads.

The one thing I went out looking for but could not find a good deal. wink

Spent 4 hours walking around and only bought an old Coleman Lamp.

What exactly are you looking for as far as cyl heads?  Camel humps?  2.02's?  1.94's?  Any particular casting number?  305 416 heads?  Anything before center bolt's for a 350 with hardened seats?

That's it..thats all you have to tell us..come on..like to hear from somebody who has never been ...What did you think ?? I haven't been for 5 years now and have not missed it at all..I like all the other ones so much better..might be an age thing..But Barry just keeps having the same **** that never sells but, keeps getting lugged back every year..Several guys I used to go with just went for a vacation , or week-end party..but even that got boring ..

I guess that post didn't quite make it...

The wife complained harder than I did about there being not enough car stuff.
She said: "How many freaking customize a ring booths do you need?" I didn't notice as much because I was on a mission...
so any booth not sportin rusty parts didn't get much attention.

All in all it was a pretty cool event, I love flea markets and I was pretty much at home, but I think though they need to re-brand
Its not an automotive flea market. Its more a flea market with automotive stuff thrown in.

Found the shocks I needed for the dodge, rear engine oil seal,
tie rod ends, and lots of little crap that was on my list. (all in the first hour)

Met a few old Mopar people, might have an exhaust manifold pretty quick.

Seems the mopar flathead stuff stays at home because it doesn't sell? I understand the cost to vend has gone way up, so those guys emptying out their garages
are kinda hard pressed to make it worth their while.

Thanks for the heads up though Chuk. I managed to stash some sammiches in my backpack and grab lots of drinks. Avoided the vending food.

I'll probably go again in fall, by then the wife's ankle will be more healed up.

She's as car nuts as I am and loved it.
