It was another good day at Picton. Not as big as the fall one which is always HUGE! but good. Body count was ca 1600 with 150 race cars entered. Car show seemed huge this time and weather was great. Many regulars were there but also a different group of car not seen before showed up. Also the timing system was in full operation and was given a good test. It was kinda of on the QT but organizer reports it works flawlessly. The Christmas tree looking deal gave staging indication and also signalled which lane won by flashing the stage light in that lane when the run was completed. A set of 8 inch high LED numbers have been purchased and times will be displayed. There are no plans to print slips however it is not big deal as it is not hard to get a crew member or a friend to watch for the time display. Many of us don't really need the times as we are there for the fun and fellowship however for those to whom this matters and may have avoided this classic event the system is up and running. All racing is heads up. Next race is Sept 20. It should be the big one. if you haven't been here is what it is like. It is like the early days when drag racing first started. Find a competitor and come up together and they let you run each other. Or you can just line up and run whoever shows up. The track officials are instructed to do everything possible to make the pairing happen. This is one of those events we will be talking about in "The Home" long after our driving days are done. Make sure you will be able to say with the rest of us, "yeah I was there." The whole deal is volunteer run. And our own Wuga right here has put in many hours making signs and installing them to help guide folks to the place. In case he thought no one noticed we did. No small mount of work doing all that and a big thanks goes out to him. Many old racers (70 and older) show up to watch and shoot the breeze. Some of us younger ones (Me at 64) are still active but can remember when these guys ruled the track and then there are the younger ones who spare no expense going fast like we wished we could have back in the day. And we all get along. This is a very special deal.

I have to agree with DON -- It was a GREAT event -- Well organized , great variety of cars on the track and off -- Very laid back atmosphere and FRIENDLY !! . A lot of hard work by a lot of people who seldom get recognition , but greatly appreciated just the same . Great event !! -- Looking forward to 20 Sept -- LATER --- DON / fleet 51

I would like to thanks to Don for the accolades to Wuga..way to many time guys work their bag off for tons of events and they are seldom even thanked let alone recognized..So a big tip of the hat to you for acknowledging him and a big thumbs up to Warren for his hard work. He is sure a valued member on here...and he sure has one Purdy ride...
I have not been to the Picton event and probably won't get to next one..Way to far away for me on this end of Southern Ont..That drive through GTA is just to much for me anymore but I do appreciate your posting the events and storys.. Hope I get to skip the "THE HOME" and go straight to where I am going...
I would also like to take this opportunity to give credit where its due and that's with everyone. HUGE thanks to all the organisers and volunteers that make it happen as well as fellow racers for keeping the completion alive and being respectful of everyone else. Its a long drive out from Toronto but I make it out to every event as long as the truck isn't broken. Had a blast and let my dad make a few passes
Cheers to all you guys (and gals) that make it possible.
first hand on brake story.
I managed to put both hands on the wheel during racing. The new tunnel ram was really cooking giving me far more then I ever expected and taking the car to a speed in the traps that was just at the edge of my comfort zone. I actually said and I meant it, "That is a fast as I want to go" Had a little burble in first just before the shift as fuel pressure was dropping off in first gear quick rev up. I have that fixed now so I don't know what I will do.
I also really liked when folks from here came over and introduced themselves. Nice to put a face to a name. I have to stay in the shade as the sun really bothers me so I don't get to strool around like I would like to.
fatchuck, St Mary's Ont. I was wondering why that was so familiar to me. 179.69 miles as the crow flies. I remembered why I know that. In my winter life as ham radio operator VE3LYX I have worked Lou Vermond VE3AWA in your town on some ancient 1920s style home brew rigs and had to look up the distance. Too bad the road here is so crooked. I hope some day you find yourself in the area when we are running so you can join us. I met Wuga at the drags there the year the Yellow trainer planes were there. As well, chevyboy and several others have stopped by to introduce themselves. Shag66 today I was talking to. Don with the 51 is an old friend and fellow 6 cyl nut. He may even be older then me! :>)
