Ok , so I know im not a huge poster on here.... yet. I am having troubles finding a way to insure my car. Skipping the sordid details ... MTO registered it as a 2014 Homemade vehicle...

So I called a couple insurance places that deal with custom and collector cars and they said " sorry cant help you".

Any suggestions as to how to approach the subject with a insureance company and recommended brokers please.

Thanks

Bri

find a good broker who wont automatically say no as it sounds like this what you are running into, some brokers like writing simple policy's with no effort involved and are instructed or by habit simply say sorry cant help you if you stray outside the standard questions.  some brokers have access to a wide variety of products, find a well known company who deals with various products.

I can't see why they would not insure it, if it's certified and appraised.
Am I missing something?

LOL its a Heintz 57 car... I got it from a friend whos dad started to build it 30 yrs ago.... 1927 caddy frame, 1967 Impala 283 SBC engine and tranny, 1975 Cordoba rear end. Sat for 25yrs in a barn then fell into my hands.

The body is hand made to replicate a 1930 Packard Roadster. I have a mechanic who will safety it, MTO sez if I safety and insure it I wont need etest for 7 yrs, in the meantime they suggested I approach Driveclean with pics and dey=tails they most likely will exopempt me due to the fact theres no where to plug the etest into. Pics on the way.

kit cars are emission exempt but they still fall under that handy dandy little paragraph at the end of every sentence in the mto rules, must pass a visible emission test, no smoke for more than 15 seconds and the engine used must have the equipment it came with and is subject to an e test if the prick who stops you thinks it should have one  and must pass of course.  no vehicle is truly emission exempt.

kit cars fall under the same class as new cars, you are the builder just like the automakers, so the same rules roughly apply, except theres no standards for your can, so unless you hand build you own engine from a solid block of steel and hand make the parts, its likely an engine from a production vehicle.
