Over the years there have been 100's of hot rods which were started but never completed. I have acquired 3 fiberglass bodies. Where are the remainder? I know of at least 5 builders of fiberglass bodies in Ontario & Quebec. If these projects are just sitting in a garage/ barn/shed, they need to see the light of day. Whether they are rollers or not, these projects need to see the road, perhaps with a new owner.
Post info about these projects. Maybe some folks need help registering, or other finishing help. Maybe they need to go to a new home. If the stoppage is due to emissions stuff, there are means to deal with that, as discussed at great length elsewhere on this site.
If you are aware of ANY unfinished projects, how about posting relevant info here?
One of the bodies I purchased was a fiberglass "sports car" similar to an early Cobra, with a Healey style rear end. It's for a rear engine rwd chassis. It needs to go to a new home.
One other thing, did all the old "Hobby Class" Sportsman coupes/sedans racers of the 50's & 60's get crushed? Where are they? They would make excellent hot rods.
Where are the Bantams, T's, Topolinos?
By the way, I am of mixed emotions regarding the presentations (TV) of exceptionally High End ($$$$) cars.
The trickle down effect of some of the innovations and creativity is good for the average guy's project.
They are enjoyable to look at, maybe to drive but, for every ONE of those cars, how many blue collar guys fail to complete their project, because they can't fund a Ridler contender? I have spoken with far too many people that responded "I can't bring my car out because it's NOT Done!" I would prefer to see an unfinished or "undone" car/truck out, playing with the other kids, than sitting in a garage waiting for; Ridler $$$, motivation, ego to re-energize, overcoming disparaging comments. "Know what I mean Vern?"
Yes, it is fun to show off, but running the roads, get'n bugs on the glass is what this hobby is all about.
Yes there are many people that will be glad to help you part with your money, and might even do what they promised, but, there is lots of information and people that will actually help get these cars on the road.

G Ville . if,n it makes you feel better . here,s some of mine
the lil gremlin . 72 gremlin built into a back yard / home garage drag car in 76 . it raced for a long time , had dash plaques from battles of the tracks , tween Cayuga an st Thomas in the glove box when I got the car . sat for a long time , then a friend of mine bought it , sat for 3 yrs then I bought it , its being raced , worked on and up graded every year . Its a patina car with a few scars and cracks in the paint . I,m not changing a thing on it
the 50 , sposedly built for or by a dude in a biker club from torunna , way way back , looks like its right outta the 70,s . and it is . a friend had it for near twenty yrs only got driven maybe 10 times the whole time he had it . I,ve had it maybe 5 yrs , haven,t driven it in 2 summers , major house reno , mast cyl died an the rad in it was a real POS , got a new alum one in there . going back on road , in a maybe two weeks , an gonna drive the wheels offa it .
the gasser , axeually isn't a gasser , but a hi boy roadster that dizzy dean murray brought up from states way back in 70,s . end ed up going from a show / drag winning car to a bare rolling chassis . I bought it like that in 88 I think . put it in my Mom,s garage , hasn,t moved till about a week ago . I,ve had three or 4 different cr appy bodies that I thought I would put on it .
but now I lost that storage space , and have a real funky body to put on it as soon as the 50 gets a good check over and a appraisal , and gets back on the road , the gasser is going in the shop and stuff is getting done to it
in the mean time whilst this is going on I,ll be doing my lane way , the roof on my house and trying to reach an agreement with the phuc tards that run the city I live in an build a bigger garage
a few yrs back I went to allen town p a , and brought back a real nice car body to go into another project , but have since decided that I need to thin the herd a bit and that body which is tarped in the back yard is going up for sale .
the 50 usually reclines under a pine tree , the gremlin was inside last winter
Funny side story I had the gasser an the woman,s trans am in my Mom,s garage . some people drove by an the real estate peole had the garage door open , they got a text from some people asking about the house an the texted that theyre son wanted to know if the red trans am was gonna go with the house . ..77.

Excellent post Kid.
Couldn't agree more with what you said about driving what you have as soon as ya can instead of waiting until "its done". That is what its all about
I have one. I still work on it. Even did on Friday but really have no need of it. Tis a 73 VW Gasser. Bill with the other VW that was at Picton started this one but wanted a flat window one so gave me this body shell. I built a chassis with ladder bars and a 75 duster diff , I beam front axle etc and have a non running slant six sitting in it. In reality I don't need it and cannot drive two race cars at once let alone get them to the track. I ask myself why am working on it. It has 4 tires on it with only six passes on them so they may as well be new. I am in about $1100 including the tires (rear slicks and front runners) so I may just finish the steering making it a roller and flog it to recover my costs out of pocket forgetting anything for time and labour. I have reached the point where my income stream has become a trickle and don't really have any good reason to spend on it. Not that I didnt enjoy tinkering on it but really it is kinda silly to be building it at this stage of my life. I am more then happy with my rail and I need the garage space. I hate not finishing it but tis is the reality of it. Feel kinda of silly telling this but it is never the less so. don

There's a '27 T roadster steel body with turtle deck, frame by Linken, new crate motor, Willwood brakes, etc. sitting for more than 10 years that I know of, in Mt. Hope. The garage is ready to collapse.
"Not for sale" "Gonna get back on that soon".
I have two project cars and a third car that is near done and just getting the bugs worked out.
1. 67' Plymouth Belvedere - 383 had some overheating issues that I think I might finally have licked. A complete new cooling system except for the heater core seems to have taken care of the overheating issue, then guess what blew...I have a new heater core on order. I have a spare rebuilt 383 that is a bit hotter than the one in the car, TTi headers, and some other stuff that I might throw in the car if it finally runs cool.
2. 69' Dodge Dart - my first car that I bought when I was 15. The 340 is out, and it needs lots of TLC since it has been off the road for 10 years.
3. 59' Chev Apache - the Belvedere is taking most of my time trying to fix all its little gotcha's, but this one is a pretty easy project. I have only worked on it here and there but its coming along.
Hey 34 GUY : I hope those two '34's are just " Works - in -progress " , and not " unfinished " -- They are both stunning and will look sensational when complete !! LATER -- DON / fleet 51

Thank's Don
I haven't been working on either vehicle now for a few month's work has been hecktic
The truck is priority as I would like to finish it first.
I have put the 3 window away ay my work shop, But lately have been thinking of sending it to e bay LOL
i don t call mine unfinish i rather just drive them as they are with old paint ,,,,,,,,,,probably will sell all of them why restore them lolllllllllllll
I wonder where all the finished cars are as well. Over the years there must be thousands of rods, customs and vans built for the car show ,drag race and rod run hobby. I wonder where they all are. I can remember lots of different rods from custom shows and Cannats activities around the province(Yes I used to go west of the big smoke to events in London ,Hamilton and other events befor crossing over became a nightmare).I don't think all of these finished cars and vans would have been scrapped ,some probably would get written off in accidents. Are they still on the road only changed and updated. Are they in garages and unused . I have a 66 Suburban I have owned for 30 years that I used to drive and show that is in the back yard waiting to come out again, some day . Where are the customs that showed at the big shows in London and the Ex and other major shows. The 56 Pontiac I used to show is gone ,frame problems, used for parts then scrapped . With all the rods that have been built over the years, you would think there should be thousands at every event . Where are they now. Ed

All but a few are in hiding because they get frowned on if the paint is too shiny.
That fare then because back in the late 70s and 80s I wasn't allowed into some of the runs and had to park with the spectaters because my paint wasn't shiney enough. Ed
Well after having my shop burn back in January, my stuff is scattered about the countryside.
I have been having a battle with the broker, as they misrepresented my property and the insurance company denied the claim.
Been trying to source a few needed parts as I would like to at least fire the engine this summer, that sound alone could keep me motivated enough to keep from giving up!!!!
I think you hit on an interesting trend that may not be a good one and I for one missed it.
The "need" to be perfect.
I grew up surrounded by custom vans, jacked up muscle-cars and then the pro-street monochromatic scene. I remember many of those under construction, almost done, rattle can paint jobs more than the perfect examples.
I know myself and a few others that have cars that spend more time under construction working towards so called perfection vs. just getting out there. Now in my own defense, I love the build. I've flipped more completed cars after a week just so I can dive into the next one.....or two.
I have a car sitting around here that may just help make it the time to change that approach and just say "yeah it's not perfect, far from it but that's ok cause either am I".
Yup. Ken is my uncle. So you must be Larry? We used my truck and trailer to go pick up the Willys at your place a few years ago. I thinkbI met you at the drags a few weeks back .
the last time you were here Janice we were doing the jr. dragster...since then a very nice 64 Nova with a 383 stroker has been done..it went to Scarborough..and now we are doing a 40 Plymouth coupe with a sbc for my son..its on hold while we put a new cam in and lighten my daughters drag car up. My computer wont allow the pictures I take to be down loaded on it..so no pictures..
