My Latest Electrical Question - Door Poppers
Permalink

I decided to have a look at the door popper today. Wasn't working when I bought the truck. Turns out simple as just finding where all the bad connection were and soldered everything. Works fantastic now..... EXCEPT it pops the door open when you start the truck. It doesn't pop the door when you turn the ignition on, only when you actually crank it. Any idea what why that might be?

I'm also not a fan of this door popper. The hidden button on the truck is a momentary switch I think so it works nice - push the button the actuator pops and then goes back to the neutral position but the key fob is two buttons, Open/Close. So when you use the key fob the actuator stays up or down depending which button you push. Kinda stupid.

Anyways I'm more concerned about the door popping when you crank the motor!

Id check tge starter wire isnt tied into your receiver box

Dumb but id start there

Also 2 buttons to open and close a door?

Never done that before

1 button to open each door. Only

Just sayin

Add a return spring to the actuator Nick ,it will return to the closed position this way... As for the door popping when it starts' seems like they have too many wires connected and the is a function built in to the remotes they chose that powers as you fire up, possibly was an auto lock or unlock option?

well the hidden button functions correctly, it returns to the closed position. It's the key fob popper, it's something pretty generic looking, just a remote with two buttons ON/OFF. On locks it into open, off locks it into closed. The receiver unit doesn't have a single marking on it of any kind, just a black box.
That's not a big concern right now though, more curious about the popping during starting. That's what I wanna figure out first.

Some remotes have two settings. a 4 button remote has # 1 and 2 which are used to turn things on an off, 1 push turns it on, second push turns it off, that is to use remote for fog lights or alarms. buttons # 3 and 4 are momentary for door poppers. If your remote is set up to turn on and off, it might just be easier to replaced it with one that has momentary control. if you have the instructions, there may be different wires coming off the receiver. If not Princess Auto has a 4 button unit. they go on sale periodically for about $20...........

as for the open when starting, sounds like a crossed wire, or the antenae for your remote may be picking up static from the starter,,,,,,,,,,which would be extremely rare.

Hey DavyJ, thanks for the reply.. It was a remote with just 2 buttons. On/OFF... So I just removed the unit. Problem solved. lol
I realized I don't really need to open my door before I get to the truck, and don't need another piece of junk hanging off my key chain.
