Has anybody made or found a fan shroud for the 47-55 Chevy/GMC pick ups ? I am using the 261 straight 6 and a shroud seems next to impossible to find . thanks for any help .
I just checked Bills Truck Shop 1947-1955 Chev GMC catalogue. They do reference a fan shroud in the catalogue, I don't know if it's exactly what you are looking for but perhaps if you give them a shout they may have something that would work if what they carry in the catalogue doesn't work out.
Actualy just an eletric fan from a number of 80s GM cars come with a fitted shroud ..I have used a number of old mid eightys electric fans and they work great..If your running a decent size core I would go electric....
What year 261 ? you won't find a shroud because they didn't make one. .....You need the water pump adapter on the latter model engine to put the fan in the right place.
If anything you should be having a problem getting up to running temp . fan should be no more then 1/2" from the rad and in the Center.
You can make one yourself. I use thick industrial aluminum oven trays! They are high quality, nicely stamped, with a nice rolled edge, and come in a variety of sizes. Usually you can find one very close to fitting. I but two and use the second one as sheetmetal to make the surround for the fan after the hole is cut out.
Best part is the price - they are under $10 each. I can't even buy the sheet aluminum to make the pan for that price. You just have to make sure you get the thick ones. The normal ones are too thin and weak.
i was in a wrecking yard and found in the back of a mid 60's gm panel a fan shroud that looked like it was the same width as the rad on my 55. it was but was at least 6 in too long. i cut it back to a rib so the fan was 1/2 in 1/2 out and thats what i use now. the bolt holes didn't line up but thats what they make a drill for.
