Population explosion at Belleville Cruise Night
Permalink

Every once in awhile an event explodes number wise. Last night in Belleville so it was. Local radio personality Feddy Vette (who actually drives a T-Bird (???????) does a broadcast every year from one of the Belleville cruises. It was scheduled for a week ago but rain washed it away. I didnt know but it was automatically scheduled the following week, ie last night. One of the organizers Red Thompson had asked my friend Mike Sietsma to bring his Hemi dragster for display. Mike asked me to drag mine out too. Organizer Jack Bradshaw had saved a spot for us to display.  I left mine on the trailer behind the 63 Max WEDGE. Mike in true Mike form parked his truck and trailer a ways away and drove through the parking lot to the spot much to the crowds delight. (Mike is very safe and not giving to fits of race car stupidity as I might be.) The line of incoming cars never seemed to stop as well as spectators who set up to see Freddy Vette live and walk through the car show. Jake showed up from Kingston in his 53 Pontiac with world famous Bob Beezer riding shotgun. Old friend Glen Cole showed up in a nice 64 Plymouth Fury 383 (don't argue, It is a383. I built it for him about 20 to 25 years ago.) with his wife Marg riding shotgun. We hadn't seen her in over 25 years. Townsy was there with his green Willys and matching green T shirt and old Stock car racer Sam Dingman who spent some time talking to me about racing a slant six. (he used to run one n a stock car before the Chevy and Ford guys got crying in their beer and had the tiny little slant six banned from the local stock car scene. The rule book said "NO INCLINED SIX CYINDER ENGINES PERMITTED") (bunch a whimps if you ask me). Several old racers some I knew from years ago and some I had never met before stopped by. People in general I have not seen for 20 to 30 years showed up. Cars kept coming in and Red and Jack kept having to expand the parking to accommodate. Even Wuga made an appearance in the 62 Olds. I don't know the car count but I would guess somewhere between 160 to 200. I have never seen that many at a cruise night even at the old Zellers venu. Or let me put it another way. The 50/50 was $640. Normal would be $140 to maybe $200 if memory serves me. Support was given to Quinte Humane Society, Big Brothers and Sisters and Unicef Back Pack programs. Red said it best when thanking everyone. Freddy Vette brings them out. There is no denying that fact. It was a great night and one we wont soon forget.

I even met a sausage factory owner from Utrecht NL walking around with a huge camera taking "fotos". Word must be really getting around!!!!!!!!
