I was down at Miniker's in Milford on Saturday looking for a 1950-1955 Olds rear end. They have a fence line of old rear ends but Randy doesn't know what they are although he believes I will find what I am looking for. The problem is I don't know how to identify one either. Does anyone have a spec sheet or one they can post pictures of so I can reasonably sort through his stuff? I have been Googling but every time something interesting comes up, it is about 1957 and later units.
Warren.. long gone just an old picture from from a job I done long ago..I do seem to remember they I think were 64 " backing plate to backing plate ..I do not recall the spring pad measurments..I just posted them for you so you would recognise one in the pile Of old stuff..from minikers..lotts years since I did any business with minikers..I thought he had passed away and his grandson was cleaning up the place..maybe not even the same guy I am thinking off..actually i just remembered it was Lawrence roblynn down that way..Minnikers is a different yard but I beleive in the area..sorry I can't be of much more help..
Was at Lawrence Roblyn's on Thursday and bought a 261 but he had no rear ends. Went down to Minikers and so the story goes. I think Randy could be a son in law. I will use the pictures to identify what Randy has there. There are no longer any part numbers on anything but he has every bearing you could ever want. The upstairs is worth the visit.
By the way, when I was at Roblyns, Lawrence was removing a 330 from a Delta 88 and it had a three speed behind it, so I know he has a flywheel and bell housing to install a 4 speed behind a 330 or whatever other Olds has the same bell housing pattern.
If this any help the first thing is identify the wheel bolt circle. Then the brake shoe & drum size. Rock Auto has much info re shoe/drum size. If you have not nailed it by now, get the crown gear part number and google it. Check the ratio at the same time. Divide crown gear teeth number by pinion teeth number (41/10 equals 4.10 ratio). You MIGHT find reference sites with width numbers (drum face to drum face). Coil or leaf spring, over spring/under spring. Or maybe you get lucky and find a stamped shock absorber number. Still no luck? Search for Wheel bearing or axle seal number on web. hope this helps.
