Ben, Jacob and I will be taking our last cruise in the Camaro tonight as the plates are done today. He is taking the Oldman out for ice cream for my Birthday. Very Cool. The car will sleep until next spring when it becomes Ben's daily driver. Car has been a blast to drive and cruise in. Had a great summer with my two car buddies going to shows, swap meets and other events.
If anyone is up for a cruise tonight, we are heading to Port Dover for ice cream. Leaving my place at around 7pm and getting to Dover around 7:30 give or take.
Cheers
Rich

Well it ended up being a pretty perfect way to end the summer off.
We got talking while driving and missed our turn to head to Port Dover but it was more about the drive than it was the time. So I said lets just head through Waterford and weave our way back to where we wanted to be. Going into Waterford, I said why don't we swing by my old buddy Mort's house and we'll see if we can catch a look at his Novas ( at this point I was just thinking a drive by). Ben said sure, so we made a couple turns and drove by his place. No Novas?? Well maybe he's out cruising tonight as well. Let's keep going and drive through Simcoe and past the hortons maybe he's out getting coffee. Well we make it through Simcoe but didn't see any sign of Mort. Back to the original plan of driving to Dover. The night was perfect for a drive no doubt and as we come down the main street in Dover to the intersection where Horton's is to the left....what drive's by???? Mort in his 67 Chevy II Hardtop with his Lady Friend. Unbelievable luck. I haven't seen Mort in probably ten years and he just drove by us. We were a couple cars back and eventually pulled in right beside him on the pier. He didn't know the Camaro or my son Ben but I went up to his window and it was like I had just been hanging out with him last week! Some back ground on Mort and me is that we met at Dingy's cruise night in Brantford. I was sitting in my 67 Nova SS and he was a couple cars down sitting in his 67 chevy II hardtop. We both got out of are cars , got to talking and were friends ever since. I lost track of him a few years back after getting married etc but would always seem to go by once and a while . We would go to Peggy Sue cruise night in Hamilton(remember that one??) And when ever I would get a Nova finished I would take him for a ride in it. His cars are both pretty well bone stock 6cyl powerglides and mine were always V8's and Mort liked to go for a fast run every once in a while. When we first met, I was Ben's age all of 16 years old and as near as I could tell Mort was about 51. Today I am 45 and Mort just celebrated his 80th birthday. He hasn't changed much and has been blessed with good health cause I wouldn't have pegged him at 80 that's for sure. He talked with Ben and Jacob and made a fuss over Ben's Camaro just like he did with me and my cars when we first met. He listens just as much or more than he talks and always shows a keen interest in what the kids were saying. I think it would be safe to say that he was one of my mentors as I was growing up. Ben was happy (and lucky) to have met Mort and it really made our night perfect. I have passed on a lot of memories to Ben and eventually Jacob but this one was probably one of the best.
As I said earlier ... What a perfect way to end the summer with the Camaro project.
