Looking for an early Ford I beam (1930's)

After some discussion with Andrew, we recon I should look for a new I-beam for my rat rod. Drilling and sleeving mine might just weeken it too much. (the holes for the spindles are elongated)

It looks like this...

Kind of confused I thought  Andrew had installed new bushings and honed the king pins about a year ago. is the axle 50 1/2 kp  centre to  centre, 36 1/2 perch centre  2" perch boss , 33-36 or 48 1/2 kp 38 1/2  perch 2 1/4" perch boss, 37-41.

I have a 28 to 31 Model A front axle for $25. It has a slight bend (easily straightened) and both radius rod ends attached. The radius rod ends were cut off at the tube.

Bruce, that sounds pretty good to me. Don't suppose you have a picture?

Slim, Andrew did repair my spindles, but I didn't give him the I-beam at that time. I didn't realise the I-beam ends were so bad till I re-fitted the spindles

I've posted this before but it might end up being the least expensive route.

When I needed a good stock Model A axle, I contacted Sid's. They told me they didn't have any and tried to sell me a 32 axle to use in my 30. They wanted about $350.00. I contacted Joe's Speed Shop just up the street from Sid's. Joe used to work for Sid. He had about 75 Model A axles in stock. He blasts each one, magnafluxs it and verifies the alignment. He shipped it to me in Ontario from Oklahoma for under $200.00. Way less I think. When you call, you talk to either Joe or his wife. He listens and gives you what you want. He also included a t-shirt.

I don't want to get into a bidding war here.

The axle I have offered to Dave is currently listed for sale on a popular web site for $40. I discounted the price to give him a break on the price and with a small amount of work, he can straighten this axle.

On the other hand, if he wants to spend $200, I have another axle for sale that has been stripped, aligned, and painted that also includes spring perches and a radius rod. If its really necessary to magnaflux the axle, I will let him use my equipment to check it himself.

Sounds really fair to me. It was just that I went through the same aggravation before I bought Joe's axle and it cost me way more before I threw it in the scrap heap. Always better to buy at home if you can.

ok, I'm going to think about this. Obviously I'd rather not have to repair something, and I would rather buy within Canada
