the festive ride program. okay, it's a ride program - just what the hell is so festive about it ??? one cop asked me when i had my last drink, i told him daytona 500 in 2010. the guy looked at me like i was nuts - hey pal, all i did was answer your question. sheesh, cowboys.

I went through a ride program a couple of years ago. As soon as the cop walked up, I stated that I hadn't had a drop of alcohol all day (which was the truth) ... miserable prick tore a strip off me for assuming I knew what he was going to ask. He went on and on .... then asked me if I'd had anything to drink ??????
Years ago cops would do their job, but they still in some strange way managed to be your friend. Give you a ticket one day and wave at you the next. I guess their just to busy texting and watching the computer screen to wave!
re: Alcohol: The past week, The north Bay City Police Just had two of their officers Arrested for,,,, Yup,, "Impaired Driving."
This was two separate incidents, the first was speeding in the city, (His own vehicle) tried to turn a corner and hit a light post. (then,, left the scene on foot!!)
The second was pulled over outside the city by an OPP.
Both are now on "Desk Duty".
OPINIONS??

In the real world they should keep their jobs till found guilty in court , then it's bye bye. If they managed to beat the wrap but had been let go from their jobs it would be wrongful dismissal . I got injured by a drunk so I have no love for drinking and driving. As for the "Boys in Blue" on the most part they were a good bunch, then there were a few that made the rest look bad.
Sad part is years ago most of us drank and drove and drove while drinking! Lucky I didn't hurt anyone. You wonder how many guys have impaired driving convictions given by those two cops!
Depends on how it went down .. In Canada alcoholism is considered a disease and under Canadian labour law if the individual sticks his hand up and says I have a problem There employer is obligated to get them help. Like it or not thats the law. sending them off to rehab... then it also illegal to fire the individual for 6 months after that. You could but expect a law suite paying the person one or Two years pay.If they say they don't have a problem they are open to firing if they do, any smart employer would make the person agree to random testing. Right or wrong it is what it is.
As Slim mentioned, I have no problem trying to help someone that wants help, but must alcoholics believe that they don't have a problem. All this is fine to say until you have someone in your family that gets killed by one of these idiots. In our case the guy that killed our son, was well known to the cops, as they said that they knew it was going to happen, but didn't know when or to who. Then the prick gets one year in jail, and is out in 8 months. I think the biggest problem lies with the judicial system. If this would have happened in the USA, he'd be away for 20 years. Not that this would bring our son back, but 8 months?????? Give ne a massive break. Obviously a human life is worth less than an animal. Pretty sad state of affairs.

Truth or justice has no place in a court of law in Canada. The changes to the law , social stigma and monetary penalties in place now are enough to detour any sane rational person Or 99% of the drivers out there . The remaining 1% you are never going to reach. Thats the refreshing part of seeing charges laid against the two cop in north bay . Closing the door to those who feel they are above the law and will be protected by their buddies . Over the last 25 years I can't think of any rules or regulations that has been more effective then this. The slightly harsher laws have helped But the real gain has been in the shift of way people think
The day I proposed to my wife we were heading to my folks place to tell them. I was driving my wifes Acadian ( '76, don't worry fella's, not a classic = but still coulda been a neat little runner) when a guy ran a stop sign directly in front of us. I swerved, missed the Olds 98 he was driving, sailed off an elevated shoulder, took out a fireplug with the underside of the car and landed in an orchard where we re-located a few peach trees. No serious injuries. The person in the vehicle behind us got a make/model/plate number of the Olds. Cops came, took statements from us and the witnesses. It took them 2 days ( so they say) to find the other guy - 10 minutes from the accident scene. Turns out he is an ex-cop, let go for drinking ( must have been severe) who was driving his Employers(Funeral home) vehicle. 2 days.......plenty of time to semi dry out. They always look out for their own.
Another time we went to a Grey Cup party in T.O. Another friend played goalie for the Met. Toronto Police hockey team. When we walked in first thing I noticed ( aside from almost wiping out on beer bottles lying about were lines of coke on the coffee table long as my arm. Told my buddy I was leaving, booze and drugs at a party don't bother me but hypocrisy does. Pretty soon we'll have a RIDE program dedicated to every season. I think all Cop cars should have Breath Analyzers on their ignitions.
The first one has just been convicted,, fined $1,000.00 and lost his license for one year. (apparently keeping his inside desk job.)
(One of them,, can't remember which one now, this is his SECOND offense!!)
Once convicted they should be "GONE".
i agree to that but you can't do it. its classed a sickness. i have been through it twice over the years. the first guy worked in the cooler putting loads together for shipping. his day started at 5am and everything was good for a year or so then he started being late, 7-7:30, and it screwed the day up. he was a good worker so i bent a bit but it happened once to often and i let him go. i knew he drank, i had a beer or 2 with him but i didn't know it was a problem. e.i. called me a couple of weeks later and came onto me pretty hard about letting him go knowing he had a problem. i just kept denying i had any knowledge that he even drank and the reason was due to being late to often. it went away but it was tense. the second guy was a driver for crying out loud. the girls told me they thought they could smell booze once in awhile when he checked in at the end of the day. i took him into my office and read the riot act and he apologized and promised no more, lol. about 3-4 weeks later my brother calls me and asked when did i start delivering to the liquor store in bridgenorth. what, yea i have seen the truck there today and a couple of other times. he was a good worker and the customers liked him so i probably let it slide a bit. he was with me about a year and a half. when he got back that day i gave him a months pay and walked him out the door.
-i know the railways had a big problem with it years ago and they couldn't fire them. wonder what that cost.

I'm betting the school bus driver got a ticket for "unsafe reversing of a vehicle" .... I mean, obviously that's the only realistic assumption of what happened ... right?
If that was me instead of a cop, it would be an automatic careless driving. He will probably get off with not getting a donut with his coffee the following day.

Alcoholism is a sickness, getting blasted and then driving is not. I realize that anyone will cry sickness if they get caught drunk while behind the wheel.
Cops have enhanced powers over the public, they should be held to a higher standard.

They are held to a higher standard, a lot higher. The problem comes when lower rank officers cover up for them. I have seen and been part of it in person. I know of an officer that was a passenger in a car that was involved in a hit and run, while there was no charges against him he still had to go to "Police Court" and they fined him. Then there was a Sargent that ………. , well lets just say he wasn't a Sargent anymore….
i realize that they are allowed to use electronics as in cell and laptops in the course of their duties. this just goes to prove maybe it should be across the board.
