LOL You know us too well Kurt so I definitely get the joke!!  Merry Christmas back at ya as well!   Other than the passenger side door, everything else had to come off anyway.  We are doing a colour change and it's easier with the doors off.  This will be a "quick" paint job but as most know .....my definition of quick  is not the same as everyone else's. LOL  I could show Ben how to mud in dents, but won't.  We'll pick them, dolly or stud gun them out close first.  We could stuff newspaper in the rust holes of the box and glass it and mud it, but we won't.  While he has to learn to do the welding in of the patch panels and I don't expect it to be perfect but he's going to learn how and it starts with this truck box.  The goal is that what I know...he will know.  Then he can (as I did) expand on the knowledge that his father taught him and get better.  or something like that. LOL

Anyways about the freebies

I painted my daughters sunfire Eastwood's Chop top silver single stage a few years back.  She had a brake line blow and bumped a truck messing up her hood.  I replaced the hood but we had to get more paint and it only came in a gallon.  Before She had time to let me paint it, she bought a new Mazda.  So 1 gallon of Eastwood's chop top silver single stage paint waiting for someone to use it. Freebie!!!

I also have 1/2 a gallon of Eastwood's urethane primer that I bought to try and while it wasn't bad stuff, I like the Nason primer better. So another freebie to use up.

I had purchased a quart of silver chromabase in advance of doing a customers car rust repair- car got wrote off before we could book a time.  So I didn't charge for the paint figuring I would use it up somewhere so again - Freebie.  This will be what we use for the jambs and behind the cap and box.  Not quite a perfect match to the eastwood stuff but close enough and we need all the eastwood gallon for the outside. 

When I was doing cars for business I was stocked on sand paper- so freebie again. 

I think Ben's math is wrong on the trucks price two.

truck one-$250

truck two-$350

minus $25 for battery

minus $80 for tires sold

minus $141 scrap metal

minus $51 scrap metal

which leaves $53 left which I said I would give him for the rear end for the nova.

So that means $250 total!!

The trucks jambs are now painted and cleared, but this time around, I sprayed the paint and clear.

 

Surprisingly it turned out good, but my dads a good teacher so it worked out nicely.

Hey Kurt!!   I did mix the paint you know??!!  I also barked out instructions in the booth like a drill Sargent.

Thanks for the comments. Just wait till you see the surprise that may be going on the truck. There may be two surprises, but I doubt on the second one. The first is more likely. But you'll have to wait to see.

Don't forget to cut the cat off before you take the lot in Its OEM so 20 or 30 bucks is better then 200 a ton

Just random pictures of the prep before primer, and I bought a deck for the car to go with the sweet speakers I found in slims truck. 

The "old Man" got a few things done while the kid was out getting his G2 and studying for exam while at his Moms this week.  The rest of the Jambs are done.

The bed liner covers a lot so we didn't waste time and materials on the box floor and sides.  The liner comes up and over the bed sides.

Ben cleaned up the hitch that came on one of the parts trucks and also got the bumper off the truck in the last day or two.

Brakes are all torn apart and the new parts are in the house waiting to get put on.

Windshield removed(it was cracked) and I showed Ben how to pick out a dent today.  The dent just needed a skim of polyester putty to finish.

Couple other spots with door dings puttied up ready to block out.

Sanded the door, cowl, and hood is almost done. Modified a brake line to work, put a wheel cylinder in, and got my bumper and hitch hooked up.

some more progress tonight and also a couple nights ago.  Saturday I bolted the box back on and finished sanded it.  I finished all the dent and rust work.  The windshield area will be the first to bust open again with rust I'm sure.  It was very deep pitted but this is a very low buck job and there was no way we were going to cut out steel and replace it in the windshield area.  It is, what it is...a scrap yard bound truck that Ben with drive a year or two while he gets on his feet so to speak.  I epoxied the cab and then went out and snowblowed for a bit then hit it with urethane primer.  On that note...the Eastwood 2k Urethane primer sanded really nice on the box and had a very good build up.  I don't know how it will hold up and or shrink.  I guess we shall see. 

Since this is going to be painted single stage paint and again we don't want to waste tons of time on this thing, I didn't make the whole car one colour first.  This is risky with some colour due to the low hiding of most paints.  We did the jambs with base clear left overs to conserve paint so that we have 1 full gallon reduced to spray on the out side and hopefully not have any see through issues.
