One of the conditions of my parole, was to refrain from heat    so no soldering      These are perfect for me

I had them on my flat bed then after spending time on the side of the road in the rain in Mich. after being noticed. They all hit the scrap bucket and only solder now and a 100% guarantied connection rain or shine.

i just went on their site and ordered the asst kit that carl has showing above. at check out the bill gave me a startle with the shipping costs. it was 17.60 c for a 54.99 c item plus hst. the hst is pretty much irrelevant. the shipping is just a tad short of 30% of the buying cost. i cancelled and sent an e/mail asking what other options there might be as there was no choice for shipping options.
-
-lets see where it goes.

Hello Rick,

Thanks for your interest in our products.  While our light bars were designed for motorcycle and scooter use we do know of some people that have used them for vehicle (car/truck/trailer) use as well.  We are a Canadian company (based in Calgary) and we ship from Calgary via CanadaPost.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

i will be calling in the new year to discuss alternate shipping methods due to what i feel is a very hefty price considering it is shipped from within canada. lets see.

I only use solder for house plumbing.

For auto wiring, I cut the plastic off of your typical "crimp connectors", crimp the connector without the plastic, then melt on the heat shrink tubing with the sealant in it. Works for me so far, and regular crimp connectors are readily available.

I showed the product as a neat alternative biggrin

I know you all like to do things your own way wink

At my friends garage they twist the wires and heat shrink  (and it seems to last)

The posi locks are cool for some special things   like bikes and such

I think under a dash for a radio might be nice for a neat install...

Not the best for all car guys....

Just a heads up       keep cool      Happy New Year

Totally agree. Not necessary to use heat shrink on every connection though.

A GOOD set of crimpers is your best friend when doing wiring.

I did some extensive electric work last year and i solder and shrink tube everything i know it will last.
I would like to have a box in the garage for those handy on the spot fixes. It is a neat product and sometimes the old school way isnt practical.
I will also inquire about shipping......got to be a better way.

exactly      I like the Posi "tap"    just me

here a "blurb" on them

Posi-Products connectors help make your electrical connections fast, easy, and reliable with no crimping, soldering, or messy tape. Just strip your stranded wires, insert them in the caps, and then hand tighten the two caps together — the wire ends get locked between opposing cone shapes to create a water-, dirt-, vibration-, and heat-proof housing. You get a strong, low-resistance electrical connection, and you can reuse the connectors, too.

Posi-Tap™ connectors tap into hot leads without cutting or stripping them. Just insert wire to be tapped into the large cap and hand tighten into the barrel. The conductor point pierces the tapped wire without compromising its conductive integrity. Insert stripped wires through the small cap, then tighten for an unprecedented multiple hookup using only one connector.

The Canada Post rate sucks   I sent some calendars and a mug in a box(2) to 2 friends in the Maritimes   20.00 bucks each box    U.S. postage would be under ten

Sorry 'bout that ...

I read someone else's post regarding the cost to have those units shipped and just thought I'd post how I handle connections, using connectors that are cheap and easy to find. I have no opinion on how well the Posi Tites work as I've never used them. They look like they could be quite a useful product to have around, but if they aren't available locally, I think I'll just stick with what I'm used to.

Speaking of shipping rates, I recently inquired about an $18 toilet part from the States ... the company wants something like $36 to ship it using USPS (from Jersey), plus they state that does not cover any brokerage fee's, if there are any. Yeah, I'm not in any rush to order it, not at that price.

So back to the outhouse for you :)

i try to do most of the wiring and light repairs on my delivery trucks here at my shop at the house. these posi-products would make the job a lot easier and quicker in my mind. we just re-wired a 26ft box a bit ago that had 4 lights upper,4 lights lower per side, 2 front, 5 back and 2 tail lights. the wiring we took off was a mess with all the fix up splices that was in it. the wiring takes a pretty good beating with winter driving and the sun on it making the wire brittle in time plus the vibration from the reefers running on the wiring in that compartment. anyway, if these things are as good as they claim i can see a job becoming easier to do. time will tell, lets see. the proof is in the pudding, lol.

I have seen these for years. I thought they would be a nice emergency fix on the road but way to bulky and expensive to wire an entire car with them.
