Just took delivery of this 1951 GMC Cabover. Was originally going to build a ramp truck but now thinking maybe just have a shorter flat deck with wood slat sides. I was thinkin the shorter one would be funnier to drive and take to shows. Any thoughts?
HI PONTIACFAN : Does it still have the original 6 INLINE in it ?? -- If so , there are still a lot of Die-Hards out there - I can put you in touch with a couple , if needed -- P.S. I grew up in Woodstock about a hundred years ago -- LATER -- DON / FLEET 51
Yes it does still have the original six in it. Supposed to be low miles too. I haven't verified the actual mileage as the cab reeks of raccoon fecis. Used to be the fuel truck for the RCAF in Buttonville. Don I've lived here since 82.
Cool project rig! I would rampdeck, tilt n load or at the very least, tow truck/wrecker box that beast! The wrecker box would allow you to go quite a bit shorter, but a rampdeck would be the coolest!

My friend Chris put this together.
I found the louvered hood in Kelowna.
The dash is an old copper hot water tank.
That is one cool ride jarvis1. Carl that truck is the reason I'm having second thoughts on a ramp truck. Just looks like it would be more fun to drive more often.
Tom from Newtonville passed away before Christmas age 73. He was building a 54 Ford Mercury cab over the past few years stretching it into a four door with a tilt front end. I seen it last a couple of weeks before he passed. The body was still in bare metal and almost ready for primer but all the body components were in colour. He bought an engine from Steve's Diesel for power and was going to start building a chassis this spring. If I were you I would seriously think about looking at Toms truck as a lot of very fine work was done from the new custom chromed bumpers, custom manufactured box with a Mercury stamped tailgate and dash installed with air built in. Or even to get a handle on how he did things like to change the fender wheel openings for the smaller tires. Tom closed his restoration shop three years ago and worked almost every day on his truck and hired a body man each winter to help him. He did dozens of cars for people both sides of the border and never finished his own dream.
