New Guy in Ashton ON Lanark
Permalink

Greetings All,

This former Army Guy is working on a 53 Chev 1300 5-window pick-up (Canadian truck).

It is in prime, needs some body work and I am installing the L-48 from my C-3 as well as new wiring, suspension and interior.

I will certainly need some help and guidance along the way.

Larry

Thanks for the note!

Are you familiar with the 'Hot Rod' shop out your way? They advertise on Kijiji.  I will be looking for a body shop soon to do my truck.

No good pictures at the moment other than the engine compartment which I am presently fitting new fuel and trans cooler lines.  I just finished refinishing and rebuilding the front clip, a 78 Pacer clip with 76 Skylark (Nova) spindles. I have yet to rebuild the steering rack and I am putting a sway bar on it.  The Pacer front clip is a bit wide (61.5 inches) but it will fit 205/15s.

I am taking picture of everything as I dissassemble, and assemble the truck, right now it is a cab on a frame with an engine and rad/support and suspension.

I have to make my photos smaller in the 'byte size'

Before there were Mustang II front suspensions back in the early 60s, we were installing cross members from 53 Chevs. As the decade moved on we switched to Corvair units and then later on we used Pacer. All of these worked as well as the Mustang setups and installed easily. Generally ran British rack and pinion with them and they drove like a dream. Didn't know there were any Corvair or Pacer units left in the World today. Welcome aboard.

Greetings Wuga !

Yes, I am sure there are not too many Pacer front clips out there, I was very please to find bushings and rack seals still avail.

img001.jpgWelcome Larry. I built a 54 Chev 5window, back in the 90s with a Pacer front clip. Worked out really well.

Greetings Parklane !

Poop ! We (the wife and I) have been trying to decide what colour to paint the truck and the latest choice is white ! You don't see too many white ADs, yours looks great!

I am very glad you said hello, what is the offset/backspace and tire size you have on the front? As you know, with a Pacer front clip, there is less room than others.

Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Larry, as far as I remember, the rims were just the typical Cragar SS rims. The paint was a different storey. Originally it was painted a pearl white, and was debating on some type of graphic. One day while washing it, a big chunk of clear blew off the door.(clear is where the pearl is added) Went back to the painter who said, 'sorry about your luck, live with it'. At that point I was so pissed, that I got out the power washer, and the majority of the remaining clear removed itself. Scuffed it down, and put on 2 coats of epoxy primer, and lefty it. If there 's anything else you want to know, fire away.
