yes i still have the 71 nova , I want one of the 3 cars the nova , or the 65galaxie or my 63 Plymouth , the only car that is part dismounted is the nova all front clip is of the interior and the bumpers the other 2 cars run and are movable on their on power , after that I still have the monarch 56 in my avatar running plus my 1977 ltd ll , the reason I never got a chance to get back to you after we discuss about that and the exhaust part for the Sonoma is I got sick and had to deal with a serious illness so every project got put aside , now that I m getting better I can at less start planning , really with all the spending of almost a dozen trip to Toronto I shoul be selling ales 5 ofthem to build the bank account back lolllllllllllllllllllll , I was already suppose to be dead a few months ago .....so who cares about the bills the bank can wait

So you would trade one of the five to paint one of the four remaining?

I saw your other post about looking for someone to chat with. So just for the fun of it and because I am quite curious about this deal lets see what might be done.

My situation has changed now that Target has decided to close which puts my better half out of a job.  I have been tossing around getting a project for the winter to sell in the spring.

I looked back at a few posts and it seemed that you felt that $3000.00 is about what you thought you would pay for a paint job.  I also read in this post that you just want a decent driver quality paint job.  I think that getting materials to come in at a price less than $1000.00 would be a feet with out buying junk materials.  I 'll list a few things based on the Nova heading my way as the trade car(you said you prefer Dodge I believe) and we paint the Galaxy or the 63 Plymouth both of which I believe are roughly the same size(guessing here).

1 gal. of Clear Coat with activator- $250 plus tax approx

3 or 4 quarts of base colour - $300-$400 depending on how much and what colour you pick.  Metallic black was $85.00 plus tax per quart for Matrix paint.

Reducer for base $60-80 per gallon plus tax

Total for the shinny stuff- $711.90 on the low end tax included

$824.90 on the higher end tax included.

The above materials would be good quality but not "the Best"

Epoxy primer would be around $150 for a couple quarts of good stuff or $100 /gallon for say Eastwoods product

Feather fill would be another $80-100/gallon

Urethane primer $200/gallon approx

The list goes on with body metal, body filler, masking tape and paper, welding wire/gas, etc, etc.etc

I think I can justify at least $1000-1200 in materials give or take.

So that leaves around $2000.00 left for the labour.  Shop heat is definitely a factor but lets use an easy number like $20.00/hr for labour that leaves around 100 hrs of labour.

Well after all that yacking....if your cars are pretty clean and don't need a ton of metal work done or a lot of dents then it might be possible I guess?????  Hypothetically LOL

If you were willing..a few pics would be nice.

Rich

real like your post ok than just for chatting lollllllllllllll would the cost of getting the Nova your way be all mine or ?
if my financial situation gets better do I get first option to buy it back

now we would have to figure what would be first ? the nova in your yard first and mine being done only after the nova is done or the Plymouth getting there first and after the paint the nova gets there ,
I could drive the Plymouth overthere if the snow is gone ,but the nova as to go on a trailer I can have acess to a trailer or even rent one but I would need something may be like a scrap car to load back on to help cover my cost somehow just an idea doesn t need to be

Well as crazy as it sounds. I kinda thought that my wife and I would head up your way (hypothetically) with an empty car trailer for a visit to Sudbury. Some of my gas money may need to be compensated depending of course on the condition of the Nova and the amount of work to be done on the other car you want painted. I have only been there once and she has not been at all. I would bring back the car you wanted painted but would give the Nova a check over to see if the value is agreeable and to discuss what you really wanted done in the way of paint on the car of your choice. When the car was painted and completed, you would be responsible for bringing the Nova to me with all parts etc and would then take your painted car home.

I would need to see some very good pictures of both cars to make sure I can do the work for the value of the Nova. I would be not looking to head up that way until spring and finish time would be determined after seeing how much work is involved. Everything would be documented in a build thread on this site so progress and workmanship can be seen by you.

ok now for more update there s a 350 that's in the car came previously from a 70 Pontiac tempest , it run the last time got headers, but no mufflers , gas tank is of the car I still have it but I wouldn t suggest using it after its been sitting since years beside my garage , there s no rad ,

if you study the pictures it shows signs that the right quarter panel has been change probably cause of an earlier accident
the left side the red part is the only part where there s damage the rest of the fender shape is pretty good , the hood of the car someone either put the ss chrome pieces or they change the hood I don t know enough about chevys to know if a regular nova came with the 2 chrome piece or that is only aSS option

but the engine was in a Pontiac but I m sure it wasn t the original from that car
I traded the 350 4botl main that was in the car but seize up for that engine , there s a distributor on that run electronic the points are gone

the sub frame bushin are new there is frame connector added a nice clean rad support still on black primer

That's a good start. I would be interested in the frame and the floors condition. Are they patched or still original? You said that there where boxes of new parts. What would they be? I know pictures are not going to give the full details that I need to know to put a value on the car and that is one of the reasons why I would eventually, If the pics look OK, make the trip up there. The hood would have been switched out to an SS hood if it has the chrome pieces. Has the deck lid been switched or just sanded and painted green? Lots of questions but that enough for now. Have to build the TV type drama.........We'll be right back folks after a word from our sponsors! LOL

what you see green is call vinylwash apparently I was told it was better than using primer if you did have plans to paint right away the inside of the trunk lid has what my friend told me high build primer , both the hood and trunk lid been strip with paint remover , the floors have been patch, but to the style of may be amateur not the mig jobs of today but there s no holes the trunk floor got similar treatment patches ,
ok for new stuff
the filler that goes between the bumper and grill , I have both the grey plastic and the black steel ,the inner fenders and fenders are new the original are gone ,a new battery tray , eyebrowmouldings , new carpet and other thing that I could only tell if I open the trunk, memory is short when you get old ,I think the new stuff and the price you would have to pay to order them easy equal de material for a paint job

if I was to sell it for straight cash I wouldn t let it go below 5000.00 but in a trade its a different story

my opinion on the car is this if you want to build it and get the high price that Nova sell for which is between 16000 and 25000 if you put the SS badges lollllllllllll
you need to replace the floor pans and trunk specially if your putting by horsepower if you live the floor the way they are the
car should be worth 12,000 with a paint job but it s funn anyway

1965 galaxie 390 head have been done to use unleaded cost 800, all new brake lines and gas line gas tank new top exhaust master cylinder change to dual lines , the car had a major restoration in the 80 s the paint job that is on was done at that time didn t,( bought it in 2004) get to drive it yet cost of all that new stuff and repairs well I kind of give up counting after a while but I know the top alone is over $1200.00 with install , have extra parts hood trunk doors a fender some of the inside chrome and well wellll your making my memory work lolllllllllllllmost of all that new stuff was done about 3 years ago or around I lost track , what is my estimate value on that one well it ain t for sale for less than $8500.00
so it ain t the kind of car you could paint and flip and make money so it ain t for trade for a 3000.00 paint job

the 65 for me is the car that I could enjoy almost right after it s painted cause it s nearly ready for mechanical I could actually drive it without paint lollllllllllllll just tought of that
now to paint it from the front fenders to the start of the quarter panel is the easy part, the left quarter panel I know reserve surprises the trunk floor is original no patch , trunk lid as a dent

1963 Plymouth 2 door post  slant six   what do I know about it wowwwwwwwwww the picture you see that is what I knew about the car when I told the guy I ll take it when for a ride with him once short ride 3 weeks after he drove it in my driveway and I back it up in the garage  lollllllllllllll all that happen 6 years ago on a sunny day

what I know or what I seen since I open the trunk once there is 2 doors extra they need to be sand and paint  , I look under everything look pretty decent the right corner of the trunk lid shows rust so is the top left front the size that can be covered with a 20dollarbill lolllllllllll

for the bad part lol who s got a nice running 440 to replace the six ? it would take more convincing before I would let that car go Sorry

my bankaccount says yes but my brain says no lolllllllllll

all in all for a 63 I can say its a solid car and you ll just have to take my word or see with your eyes

check ebay you ll be lucky to see one for sale , except the big dollar ones with the 426 wedge between the fenders search kijiji all across Canada you ll find zero  so I m  hesitating before I say go lolllllllllll

Actually I don't really see any where that an actual price was determined yet.  I threw out a $3000.00 number from an old post that Flatduck responded to.  But in reality,  it would be difficult to do an old car justice with only $3000.00 .  Any rust or excessive bondo or dents would require much more time to do right.  I mean, what if it ended up needing a door skin or even a half quarter?  That's parts and more $$$.  There is a limit also for how cheap of materials I would use.  The $20.00 / hr is kinda silly as well because when I used to run a small business my overhead was at least $7.00 /hr.  But ... we aren't taking about paying cash for a paint job.  We are taking trading for a paint job!  I would be silly though to take a car in trade that wouldn't pay me at least $20/hr upon resale of said car with out me having to do any work to it.  This is where the hard part of the deal will come.  Could the Nova be put on Kijiji today and sold for $5000.00 or even $3000.00????  The same goes for the 65 Ford.  The value of the cars to me is just what I can get for them as soon as the paint job is done.  If I put more time and effort into the cars to try to get more for them at my expence, that is outside of this deal and the finished value means nothing.  This is all new to me so let me know if I am off base here please.

But it would seem that the 65 is off the table and the 63 is the "keeper" that is to be painted.  The Nova may be the only one tradable.

So what would you have done to the 63. Colour etc???

ok here s pic  my 1977 ltd the picture date from around 1993 or 4  now this a car that even if the paint job is only nice and shiny it s not going to increase or make the car easy to sell but this one been the family car when i was raising kids and pulling a travel trailer to lot of vacation holidays

this the one that could meet the budget i know it don t need sheet metal except one spot at the bottom of the driver door it has the old paint from may be 1990  but fade

i m using this for example but ?

just put a brand new tranny last summer

the car basically looks the same except it has cragars on it

Well you sure have some interesting cars. I will be plain and say I'm interested in the Nova. It's value is what I or we need to determine. But I think you need to pick one of these fine cars that you would like painted and we will see what it needs to get it done and put a value on the work needed. If we can agree then maybe a car will get done with some shiny stuff.

Wagon is waiting for the Kids Ranger to be done and then it will be the main project again.  We will be redecorating the shop back into a "working " shop again rather than a storage building.lol .  My wifes situation is unknown at this point and I want to be able to work on cars if their is a need that arises.

Any thoughts on what colours you would paint the 65 or the 63??

practice3 145.jpgwell in a dream land I would like asilver or gold paint on the galaxie but in reality it would make the job to big cause it would require paint inside the door jamb and trunk and hood lot of work and the hardest would be the dash lolllllllllllllllll if you look at the picture you ll see how much time that would involve

may be hard to see on the pic but part of the dash is like matching color with the outside color not exactly perfect match but close to it so the color choice well I guess same color

now the 63 in a dream world would the color of sox and martin drag racing colors lollllllllllll
result would be fun but to resale the car later wouldn t be a favorite paint for some
so my choice would be blue almost like what is on the nova with white stripes on the trunk lid and hood ya I know it ain t a mopar style but it mine lolllllllllll
or silver cause that will match DICK Landy s plymouth63 drag car
