I don't think any of these bombs caused the forest fires that the Japs wanted.
It was just too wet to do any damage.

I have read that they didn't care about fires or bombs, that was just so they would know the area that they landed and that's part of why the landings were kept secret during  the war.  Then when it was all figured out so they could plan the winds germ warfare would start, we would be wiped out with out a shot being fired.  They were doing experiments in China at that time with Unit 731 .  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731

I have also read the balloons have been found in northern Quebec.

Quite often I've found balloons in secluded parking lots before, I don't think they have anything to do with the war though.

I also think I know why people just discard them .... they always leave a bad taste in your mouth after you blow them up. Some of them taste like crap ... I mean literally taste like crap.

Other people in the park seem to really enjoy me playing with them as they are always smiling or outright laughing and then pointing me out to others ... kinda make me feel proud, bringing so much joy to so many strangers.

That's terrific, I had a hunch I wasn't the only one doing it.  It is nice putting smiles on total strangers faces isn't itsmile.  I must say though, I certainly don't do it to the extent that I don't have time to post on this site, good for you.  By the way .... what do you use for your breath afterwards?  Mouth wash?  Gum?  TicTacs?  Or do you always carry a toothbrush and paste with you?  smilesmilesmilesmile

Embarassing story... I once saw a large chunk of balloons falling out of the sky and landed on the far side of the lake at our cottage. No joke it was literally in the shape of a parachute and a skydiver falling from the sky. Me and a friend both looked at each other and thought 'did I just see that?'. It was fall and no one on the lake so we hoped in the tinny to go see what the hell that was. It was just huge pile of ballons tied together! At least we got all those balloons out of the lake.

If you find this endeavour to time consuming maybe you can form a club of like minded individuals . I would think the Ottawa area would be teeming with recruits . As they say if you don't pass along your knowledge it dies with you . I would suggest you check the condomints section at the market to combat the crappy taste.
