Remember the 60 cars found on that French farm well they were auctioned off Friday I believe the black Ferrari that was covered in books sold for $18,000,000. Here is a link to some of the prices. Some people have more money than ......... It must be a status symbol for what you spend on a car and have it restored. http://www.artcurial.com/pdf/presse/2015/r2651-retromobile-2015-en.pdf

I have no idea. I have a friend who works at a restoration place in the US. He fills us in on some of the jobs he's done, one was a mercedes gullwing. It was a mess. old crash damage, poor repairs/welds that looked worse than what you would expect a kid with a flux MIG to do. He figured they spent about $250-300K to restore this car, thing is, it was immediately worth 1.3-1.5million. Never mind it was a car the owner apparently bought for $80k. That owner kept the car, as he drives it. the other 2 gullwings he's done, right to auction...
Lots of the vehicles they restore go right to auction, and the owners come out on top. I personally don't get it. Maybe it's a good way to make a living if you have the capital! hah.
Met a guy with a gullwing in Calgary, He was at the car show with about 5-8 cars, not a single trailer. He had a good buddy of his drive the gullwing to the show, him and his other buddies drove the others. His comment "Cars are to be driven". So not everyone is in it for the bling.
