Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric Paint Review
Permalink

I put this in tech because I will be doing a review/walk through of this product. From the test patch I have done it seems to work pretty well.

For those who have seen the low budget winter beater build, then you will know that the carpet in my truck is garbage and covered in stains. Next Saturday I will be painting he carpet a darker charcoal color to cover the stains. Luckily the new color is the same as my ford t bird bucket seats.

I will be using duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint for the project. It was about 10 $ a can and I got 3. I have a little test spot sprayed and can tell you two things right now. 1. It looks very good and dries relatively fast. 2. It will make the carpet stiffer than original. However, it isn't like a bristles brush but Itis a little more stiff that normal. But considering the stains in my truck are stiff in spots already I don't really care. But it is good to know if you are going to do this yourself. I will be posting more pictures and what I am going to do in order on Saturday after i am done.

For now though, here's a crappy picture of the test spot.

if any one has used this or another product before feel free to comment and share your success or demise. I will be doing it regardless because I already bought the product and like my results but any tips are appreciated.

Ben

I've used the Duplicolor stuff before and it was ok
Had better results with Mar-hyde products
I know you're on a budget but carpets are usually pretty cheap
I'd put the $30 you're about to spend on spray towards a new carpet

Real  trucks don't have carpets....... but a can or two of scrubbing bubbles with a bristle brush will take out the stains...

Like I said I had already bought the product. I was going to try and scrub them out with the scrubbing bubbles or bissel stuff, but these stains are really bad. By the time I shipped a new carpet here the price for shipping could be 30$ or so so I'm happy with the compromise. If it was my camaro, yeah I would sport the new carpet no question, but I find this work fun and it gives me something to do. Another reason is that the door panel pieces are stained as well so this allows me to make everything look the same for a good price. I'm not saying anyone's wrong or offend, but this is how I'm going to do it this time around.

Well, SAturday finally came along and the painting is finally done. Did not take that long to paint it, and it dried really fast, both pluses to the review.

Onto the reviewish kinda things itself. I really think that this product is a good choice for a cheap fix to carpet. I also sprayed some plastic pieces too. IT is supposed to have

adhesion promoter built in, so I will see about the longevity of the product after I can actually use it for a couple weeks or so, and let the sun hit it.

The product also covers well. I had really bad stains in spots from rust and coffe and oil and i dont even know what else. It only took 2 coats to cover the stains.

Overall, the product seemed to work well, and the carpet looks brand new.

Now on to what I actually did to get it this way.

First I removed the seats. You can really see the damage in these pictures, and Ill apologize now for the crappy camera.

Then I vaccumed  the carpet reallly well. Dragged the tube in all directions, and used a brush to pull up loose particles deep down in the carpet.

Then I put the paint down. 1 medium coat first, and 1 heavy coat. I also held the can closer than the 10-12 inch reccomendation. More like 4- 6 inches, as I wanted the paint to sink in.

^^ In the above picture, it looks brown, thats just my camera. ^^

Then I pout the seats back in and called it a day. My dad took some good photos too so you can see the real color.

Overall, I think it is a good product, and will use it again for stains and such. Probably use it for plastic parts too.

Looks good. There are lots of products on the market that claim they will do the job. It is nice to see the end user results. Thank you for sharing.

It was my friend that gave me the idea. I had never heard of it either. He didnt use it for the whole thing though. His brothers fiero had some rusty water stains in the bottom of the super deep trunk area. My friend just blended into the old black. I just took it a step further and did the whole thing, as all the bolts and everything were still un rusted.
