My neighbours son had his Drivers test REFUSED because the check engine light was on in his Dad's vehicle!!!  Anyone heard of this happening???  Apparently if any warning lights are on, the vehicle is deemed UNSAFE!!!!!

another shining example of the ontario liberals eh pete. i wonder how many people in the testing facilities are driving with check engine lights on ? the way this liberal gov't operates it's a wonder they didn't impound the car and pull the plates. what a bunch of sphincters.

This may not be a shining example of the Liberal Gov,t. There are so many cases of Liberal lies and screw-ups and coverups since the dirty Dalton days they may as well be blamed. Any political party now-a- days will do anything to further their cause and they don't give a dam how much it costs. They all see the taxpayer as a money tree that just keeps producing bumper crops.

All most all driver test centres are now privately owned...... Any  reason to fail you  means you have to pay for a new test. This has been going on for a long time .Its profit motivated not political  .Very few pass the first time

noYes both my boys and pretty much all there freinds failed the first time .Come back and pay with a smile.
When they privatized the system the trend started . Someone thought hey this is a easy cash grab. What is the recourse, who do you complain too.?
The gov is still responsible for not monitoring the process. Wonder how many complaints have been filed on deaf ears.
The check engine light issue is real ,heard about a local kid(own car) not being able to start the test. What friggin next..

When I did my full "M" license, the tester did a full walk around my motorcycle. He made me show him all the signals, worked, shocks did not leak, tires, horn etc etc worked. Its all about liability. The fellow beside me, his horn did not work and he sent him home.

When I did my "M" license, the tester watched me leave the now parking lot of Bibles for Missions in St Thomas. Made a left at the 1st intersection (Wellington & 1st Ave)  went around the block and back. This was on a 1972 100 Yamaha enduro. Easiest ever test;although I failed my 1st car driver testing

Times have changed

Isn't that why the make black electrical tape to cover up the idiot lights. Did you know if your ABS light is on when you go for a safety your vehicle will still pass inspection. Abs is not a requirement.

Luckily my youngest son was aware of the 'Driver Test Scam' and didn't take his own car, which has a code on it that we can't seem to shake - it always comes back. He used my truck and passed for his full "G", avoiding another fee and months of waiting for a new appointment.

A rip off for sure, but they could just as easy say you didn't shoulder check, check your mirrors often enough, or any other bogus claim that might cause you to fail, thus causing a further appointment and test fee.

I just got a replacement car for my wife to pass E-test with the ABS light on - it's been on so long, it's a wonder it hasn't burned out yet! As far as I know, the ABS is totally unrelated  for E test.

A year ago I took my '97 P.O.S everyday beater van in for a E test. The check engine light was on.

Mufflerman said the light on a '97 doesn't matter. After '97 they check the computer before they just sniff it.

325,000 it passed with flying colours

Just had my suburban Etested back in the fall with both the ABS (been on since around 2005. It doesn't come on till you start moving though) and airbag lights on

I don't know about the new Emm test. My last emission's test they plugged it in and passed with the abs light on and there was no mention of it by the tech that did it. I do no if the engine light is on the wont test it.
