Dave Kindig did a bit of it on an early edition of the new show "Bitdh'n Rides" Pretty neat if you can maybe catch a rerun. Finally a show without all the stupid drama the others have all had.

I am sure it is just as easy to make a mess.. but I bet with a little playing around on a test panel... stuff like this can be done..

Al Rossi in Chatham does a great job. he does a little pinstriping too. It's been a longtime beef of mine that people seem to be afraid to fill out a little bit of information - like what town are you from for instance. Ontario is a big place - you want to travel hundreds of miles to get some woodgraining done? If we knew where you were from you'd probably get more responses.

Mike and Carl;

I agree completely. I just noticed that we are nearing the 1200 mark for members, but there are only 450 introduction threads. I also noticed that I did not start an introduction thread but I did do an extensive profile. If we take all the profiles and threads, I still wonder how many people are hiding on here. As I have said before, I don't like sharing threads with people who are anonymous.

Wow, this thread took a hard left turn from woodgraining no

New neighbours moved in next door to me.  The previous owners of the house (good friends) told me the names of the new owner and what he does for work (he has an unusual job that sounds quite interesting).  You would (most likely) NOT believe how much information I found out about this guy just from using Google (cyber stalking them I guess) and poking around on his Facebook page, Twitter page, tumblr page, Youtube channel etc etc .... not only that, I was EASILY able to determine he has two sisters, what they both do for work, who they are living with (both are not married) and what their boyfriends do for work, where they have traveled to (or more specifically, where they are RIGHT NOW on vacation).  I now know his fathers name, his mothers name, where his parents met, his fathers age, know what his parents and sisters look like, what his mom and dad do for work, the name of the family dog, where his father works and specifically what the father does, what religion the family is, where the new owner and his wife went to school, I even learned that he went to school with the cop who shot/murdered that kid on the street car in Toronto etc etc.  It is absolutely CRAZY how much info I was able to easily gather JUST ON THESE TWO ALONE.

Neighbour on the other side of these new people had been hearing some kind of a loud beeping/alarm coming from inside the house, at one point this winter.  Since he hadn't seen them around lately, he asked if I knew how to get a hold of them, to notify them of the alarm.  I hopped on the internet, poked around a little, and found that they (husband and wife) were vacationing in Florida with his mom and his two sisters.  I was then able to get in contact with the two of them, through one of the sisters WORK EMAILS !!!!  If I can search out this stuff, virtually ANYONE can .... ain't that great eh, an empty house, out of the country ... a perfect opportunity for a dishonest person.

Here's another example.  Someone on that big "NO RAT RODS" site posted info and pics about a car they had found and were in the process of rebuilding.  During the course of the thread, they posted WAY too much information like, what State they live in, that they run a business out of their home (with PLENTY of pics of their garage, both inside and out), they also went on about what out-of-State shows they would be attending etc etc  Well, just for the fun of it, I thought I'd spend a little time to see if I could find out EXACTLY where their house is ... and it didn't take me long at all.  Now, not only do I know their EXACT address, I also know what is in their garage (and it's a VERY BIG and VERY WELL EQUIPPED), what is left in their garage when they take one of their cars to a show, and, based on show dates, I can easily determine not only when they won't be home, but when they won't even be in the same State as their house.  Keep in mind, I did not access any Facebook or Twitter stuff at all in this case, I just used the written information they had posted on that site, and information I was able to glean from photos they posted there.  Again, VERY easy picking's if B&E's are your thing.  Hell, I could even tell you what size truck and trailer you'd need to cart off the cars and tools.

Another example?  Sure ... there was a poster ON THIS SITE who I knew for a fact, wasn't too keen on anyone other than those he invited to his home/shop, knowing where he lived.  Yup ... in no time at all, I was (once again) able to easily determine EXACTLY where he lives (and what is in his garage) using only information or pics posted on this site.  You may be interested to know that I forwarded my find to him so he could remove the revealing posts IF he wanted to (and he did).

 If you feel the need to post personal information (either in written or photographic form) on this site in particular or the internet in general (for, quite literally, the ENTIRE world to see) .... by all means, go for it, enjoy, have fun.  However,  I personally feel much more comfortable keeping as much of my own personal information ... well ... personal.  As I see it, you (or anyone else, as I see fit) do not need to know who I am, what I do (or did) for work, where I live, what I drive, what I've built or had built, or what tools or vehicles I have in my garage/shop, in order to discuss most if not all aspects of this hobby.  I much prefer anonymity myself.

Lucky for you, I've got things to do today, so you're only getting the "Readers Digest" version biggrin

Signed, NOT really the guy who's name shows up when you "search" me  smile

I agree with the above novel. Privacy is a thing of the past. As far as woodgraining goes, my body guy is amazing at it. His woodgraining was shown on Restoration Garage. See now you know where my body guy works and with a little searching you can find out his name.

all I'm saying is the town or city you live in or nearby should be in the profile. I haven't divulged anything else and haven't asked anyone to, but if someone is looking for someone with a particular talent it seems like they be better off saying where in Ontario they're from. I doubt if someone from north of Timmins would be interested in driving to the southern tip of the province to get an hours work done. From now on, I'll just ignore anyone who asks for help and doesn't bother to say where they need it.

I have done it.

Spray black and lightly wipe with tack rag.

This leaves the gain lines.

Spray transparent reds and browns over that in light coats.

Spray layers till you get the color wood you want.
