went to write my air endorsement for my license thursday at the mto office in belleville and i notice 2 driving school cars parked out front in the spots reserved for  tests  from scarborough. humph! it wasn't very busy and inside were six visible minority people in one corner of the room. i asked the lady at the counter what was up with the people coming out of toronto for drive tests and she says it is getting to be a pretty common thing. my brother in peterborough told me about this happening a lot up there also. seems they come down to the smaller cities/towns to take their drive tests as there is no traffic as compared to the big smoke.

now doesn't that give you a warm fuzzy feeling. humph

Right or wrong I think this has been happening for a long time now. It is easier and quicker, apparently, to get a test booking at the smaller locations.

I do agree that with the traffic in Toronto throwing in drivers with little experience is scary. I don't like driving in Toronto much anymore. To many unpredictable drivers, bike riders, walkers, runners, buses, streetcars. I am tired just thinking about it.

They are also going to Lindsay & Bancroft as well. Just after I retired from being a driver instructor for A/Z & D/Z drivers, the school switched from Oshawa test site & went to Petebourgh as the "Failure " rate was less there???? Would think that the car test would have the same result, less fails????

I just spoke with a young woman who admitted she's afraid to drive, failed her exam 3 times in Niagara before she went to Simcoe where she passed. She's the 3rd person I'm aware of that went there to get a pass.

This is why my youngest son booked his final graduated G test in Woodstock instead of London. Traffic isn't too bad in London, but he was able to bump the appointment by 3 weeks by going to a smaller centre.

I did the same too. When I lived in London, it was a longer wait plus the traffic was worse. I went to Lambeth, just outside London, did a little 401, and some back hwys...but then just stayed in the little Hamlet that is Lambeth. Super easy, super quick. However, my dad started me driving when I was like 9 helping him move cars around etc...so I wasn't totally green behind the wheel. Plus I had an older brother who let me rip around with his little sh*t boxes to learn.

well.. last time I did a written,, there was only one old guy in the place... and 3 staff.... small office.. so I had to sit near the "OLD GUY"... well Old Guy moves over a desk to sit closer to me.. lol.. and starts to read my test.... lol.. so I check over my shoulder,, then look at his sheet to ensure it is the same questions... for the road sign part... it is... he has asked me if I know the answer to the top question.... and I see he has the entire page to go,,,, so I whisper... D,, he says WHAT?? CAN'T hear you??
LOL
so.. I said " DEEEEE ! " lol
and he catches on.... writes it down.. and looks at my page for the next answer ...
so.. I say... A,
and he says WHAT ???

lol... I am done.... so I sit for bit thinking,, is it right to "give" him the answers for SIGNS.. ?
The clerks attention turns to us...... I read off a the rest of the page.. but he has another page of signs not done yet and the clerk comes over and asks If I have a problem...... lol
Nope... Done...

I present my test to staff... she checks me and I have not made any mistakes,,, while she is doing the paper work for me,,, Old Guy gets his test marked.

The clerk for Old Guy says "JOHN!" you have been here all day... and you still have 4 wrong!! .... Ok.. this one here that says STOP... I know you know what it means... so I am changing it from STOP 500 FT ahead.. to STOP.. and this one here that say ONE WAY .... I know you know what that means... so I am changing it from Local Traffic only , to One Way..
There!!!! You pass!!! <smile>

So,,, <shakin my head> I said to my clerk... whoa. Ladies. you know if a person can't pass the test of signs they really need to be sent home to study again...

and she proceeds to rip me a new one!!!!!!
Just Wait till you turn 80.. and your livelyhood and lifestyle require to drive and you find yourself very nervous to come into a test facility for the first time since you were 16yrs old!!

sooooo,,, I apologized ... with.. "Ladies , you obviously can tell when a person is nervous Vs incompetent,, so I will leave the job to you who know what they are doing.. and not me who thinks i know it all!! sorrrrrry!"

I think he was Scottish

This pisses me off. Both of my parents are immigrants. My mother came to Canada in the 1950s and had to learn english. She took classes.

There is this idea that we have to accommodate everything. I'm ok with being respectful to a culture and way of life, we are an immigrant country,

however we happen to have 2 official languages. Learn one of them. How is someone who doesn't speak english supposed to understand a sign that says

"DANGER, BRIDGE OUT"??
